Arrow Got My Edge Evolution

Hey y'all, I got my Edge Evolution in the mail yesterday! It's Smokin Lariat's old edge, so I guess its new to me at least! I love it so far but I have a few questions.

Questions
-How close mpg wise is the Edge? I like the numbers it's telling me, but I know its high because it doesn't have many miles anyway.

-Also, for anyone who has 35x12.5x18 tires: what size metric tires do you put in?

-Anyone got tips on any custom settings to play with? I took out the speed limiter just for kicks, but also set a warning to go off whenever I hit 75mph, I'm not a fan of the law in Georgia that states any speeding ticket over 80mph is a big hefty ticket.

Install was beyond easy. I plan to have it changed over to a Gryphon probably some time over the summer.

Thanks yall
-Barrett

The mileage estimate is usually high. I don't know how high because I haven't played with it in a long time. I use a spreadsheet on my netbook which follows me around most of the time.

Don't play with tune settings unless you know all the possible repercussions of them. Know how the setting works and what mechanical parts it influences so that if you break something it is easy to know what you broke. Also, settings that may work for one person might not work for you. Shift firmness is one that pops up quite a bit as an example. All you should really need to play with are tire size and gear ratio.

Hey buddy! Congrats on the purchase! You're gonna love it!

Put in 2707 for 35" tires. Circumference = diameter x pi (3.14) 35x3.14=109.9 Since there are 25.4 millimeters per inch, multiply 109.9x25.4 to get 2791. THEN (special thanks to MGDFan for the info!) factor a decrease of 3% for squish factor. That's where you get the final figure of 2707.

The mileage is usually a little high on mine too. Not too bad off, though.

Some fun stuff with which you can safely tinker:

If you run level 3 for 91 octane and you actually run 93 octane, you can safely advance the timing by 1.0.

Firm up the shift points little by little until you hit the sweet spot. For me, I'm liking this setup:

1-2 = +10
2-3 = +10
3-4 = +8

Other than that, everything else I'd leave be for now. It's already pretty well souped up.

I would recommend getting with Bill at Gryphon and at least have him upgrade it with the Gryphon firmware. From what I understand, the Gryphon canned tunes are much better than the Edge, but since he upgraded mine to a Gryphon before I ever installed, I can't say from personal experience how much a difference it would make. All I know is the Gryphon sure is cool!

Congrats, and have fun!

Hey Barrett - glad to see you got it installed and are having fun with it! Looks good on the dash there. Was pleased we could do business together and glad I cold help you since I'm leaving the Ford fold for the Dodge RAM camp. Have to admit I'm lovin drivin the new HEMI but my 06 Lariat will always be a fave.

Good luck with the EDGE and I'd agree - upgrade to the Gryphon when you can. And like I told you - try the performance tune at least once just for fun!!!

All the best!

Quick question, It was mentioned earlier to put in 2707 for 35's. "not questioning, just inquiring." The booklet I got with my edge said to use 2792 for 35's. It the edge manual it came with. Any Idea?

Put in whatever you want, then fine tune it with a GPS till the Edge and GPS speeds agree.

If you have a GPS it is easiest to calibrate the tire size. First you insert a size you know is wrong and a good distance away from your real tire size, like 2400. Then clear the truck and GPS odometers. Drive at least 10 miles and use the following formula.
GPS odo / truck odo X 2400 = correct tire size.

This is done much faster than "tweaking" to make the speeds line up.

Congrats on the new purchase. As for settings, i would only mess with the shift firmness unless you REALLY know what you are doing. My friend thought he was very knowledgeable on all the settings and started to change things daily, and eventually trashed his tranny. So be careful and please read the entire manual.

The booklet doesn't take tire "squish" into consideration. Most folks believe 3% is a pretty accurate figure from which to arrive at the closest actual circumference.
