CS not giving MPG's even after PHP tunes?

hey everyone, so finally got the new tunes from Bill over at PHP. put the truck on the 87 performance tune and HOLY *****. my truck seems to have more get up and go with Bill's 87 tune over the Edge 91 tune! Truck just runs so much better, sounds so much better and feels so much better.

BUT. Here are a few issues i have and hoping you guys can help me out.

When i updated the programmer for the first time via Fusion, the MPG dial when to three dots... Even after returning the truck to stock, its still three dots.. Put the new PHP tunes onto it and hooked it up to the truck today, STIll three dots.. Tried doing a different screen, and it just is a blank box.. SO, any ideas why the cs doesnt want to calculate my MPGs?!

sounds like you need the driver mod to increase the mileage

haha. I was hoping someone wouldnt say that the mileage is so bad that the CS cant calculate it lmao.

My evo goes down to 2MPG, dont ask me how I know lol. I would assume you have to be doing better than that.

haha yeah, ive seen mine go down to 2 before as well.. not sure why its not wanting to compute the gas mileage... Any ideas?!

I think you need to talk to Bill about this.

yeah, i planned on getting ahold of him tomorrow.. was just hoping that maybe someone on here would have an idea of whats going on.. Like i said, it was doing it before i put his tunes on there, so i know its not his tunes..

The only way to see an improvement in mileage is to calculate it on paper...also your foot will have a large part of it.

i understand that. But the CS (on the analog screen) shows your mpg's, and ever since ive updated it, it has three dots where it used to show what my mpgs where

JackandJanet Jul 25, 2011 10:23 AM

I just had a thought. When the CS/CTS first came out for Ford trucks, it would not show the Average MPG (they were working on the algorithm), but it did (and mine DOES) show the Instant MPG. You did not say which one you are missing. If it is Average MPG, it's possible they had produced code to show it and issued that in a minor update (which I have not done), but then (in a later update) took it off due to errors. (You said it disappeared after a firmware update.)

THe Average MPG seems to be rather hard to calculate with any accuracy. One thing that screws it up is the amount of alcohol in the gas, since that changes the A/F mixture ratio in closed loop.

jack, thanks for the reply. it never showed the average mpg, but the instant mpg, which now it does not. i shot an email to bill a few minutes ago, so we shall see what he thinks. I figured if anyone on here would know what was going on it would be you lol

Well, sometimes I guess right, but not this time. :o This condition you have HAS to be a software/firmware problem from Edge since it happened after an upgrade (which you needed to do before your tunes arrived). It's probably firmware and Bill may not be able to correct it, but at least he has a bit of clout with Edge and may be able to get them to fix it.

thanks Jack! Hopefully it can be fixed before my trip down to florida next week! would be nice to know what kind of MPG i am getting without waiting to go through a tank and doing the math! We shall see what Bill has to say once he gets my email
