I've got a dilemma.

I really want to send my EVO into PHP to get a custom tune. I've got 3 options.

1) Buy another EVO on craigslist and send one of those in while it's gone and then sell the programmer once I get the Gryphon back.

2) Keep the tune I have on my truck right now and not set it back to stock before I send it in and pay the $10 to PHP and get my truck reflashed from Ford.

3) Put it back to stock and rack up maaaaaaaaaaaad miles in the 6 weeks it's gone. (I've got 35's and 4.88 gear) When I'm going 71 it reads 97. NO BUENO!

4) Suggestions? Need the F150 community on this one!

Jake

I'd by the Gryphon that is in the classifieds right now...

Lots of stuff for sale

When you buy that, it should come with a CD. The CD should have the program on it that you can have custom tunes emailed to you from PHP. I think its Pegasus or something like that.
If that is true, I think that would be your best bet...

If JackandJanet or 88racing(might be dirty88), or maybe Bluejay see's this, they can tell you for sure. This is just my understanding of it.

I'm pretty sure I'd be able to download the program off PHP's website without needing the CD. Not 100% on this. But it looks like you can download the program. I've got a couple days for this thread to bulk up because I'm in Afghanistan right now and am not home at the moment.

Or, buy the tuner you want (cs or cts), with custom tunes from PHP, (or whomever) already installed, and when it gets there, sell the EVO that you have now on C/l for whatever you can get for it. Buying a unit from them will save you 30$ per tune anyways (you are gonna pay $60 for one tune), and it would save you from paying the shipping..... The $$$ gap starts to shrink.

This way, you can have your cake, and eat it too.

$430 for a CS and $650 for a CTS. I don't want a CS or CTS. I can get an EVO for muchhh cheaper, send it in and get 2 tunes for much less than the CS price.

I'm a little curious what kind of $ difference there would be? I'm in no way questioning that it is cheaper, just by how much? What is the CS cost minus what you can sell yours for? An how much to send yours in, pay shipping both ways, and have it converted, and tunes added? Is the difference really that huge?

Any thoughts on a different brand tuner, or are you stuck on Edge?

Not stuck on Edge, just familiar it. And I haven't heard many complaints on PHP's custom tuning, so I feel like I'm in a good position to do it. Looks like I might find a Gryphon for about $300.

CS Gryphon -$429 + 2 custom tunes. $30 each = $60 = $489 plus shipping
EVO Gryphon - $300 + 2 custome tunes. $30 each = $60 = $360 already shipped.

- $200 ish for my EVO now.

CS = $289
EVO = $160

That'll be $120 on a tank of gas my friend. Hahahah. Any little bit counts. Although I would classify $120 as a lotta bit!

Take some of that tax-free $$$ from the 'Stan and just pony up for a CS from PHP.

Just because it's tax-free doesn't mean I'm a millionaire. I'm still a huge bargain hunter. If I want to buy something, I'll search around for the best price on google shopping or call stores and tell them I got a better deal at this store and give them some outrageous price. If they laugh in my face, I'll just walk out and think non-the-less. Or they will stop me walking out and deal with me. I'm not a cheapskate. I just feel that I can save money here and there and see the difference in my bank account later on.

Yes the money helps allot, but it's not about the money. I did pay off my truck while I was out here which is a hell-bent load off my shoulders. Feels dam* wonderful to not have debt!

I'm not sure on the details of your 300$ EVO, but is it not PHP's position that if you don't buy the programmer directly from them, any tunes you want are $60 each? I might very well be missing a piece of the puzzle, forgive me. I'm not by any means looking to change your mind, or steer you in any direction. Just options.

It might be worth a little bit of time to look into an stc x3 from 5 star tuning. I have only positive things to say about the service I got from them. And it comes with 3 custom tunes.

Wait.....If you get an STC X3 from 5 star tuning it comes with 3 custom tunes? If it is that easy, they have themselves a deal. Do they have the heads up monitoring like the Edge does? Let me check this shi* out. If you're steering me in the right direction I might send you a thank you note and birthday card every year. hahahaha

575? dude, At thier regular prices, (and I got mine on a sale week) they are $415 with 3 custom tunes of your choice. I dunno where you got your 575 price from. They had a $20 off 4th of July sale. Mine was 395, but I had to pay a little extra shipping to get it to Canada. Check.... http://5startuning.com/onlinestore/e...excursion.html

I know it says 6.8 liter here, but its the same device, and the same deal. Call or email them. They will answer you in a flash.

Thanks guys. I went with 5startuning and got the X3. Just going to sell my evo, or use it as a really expensive gauge reader.
