what tuner?

Hey my name is craig. I always come to this site to figure out things for my truck so I decided to join. My question is what programmer is the best and why. I've been llooking into the edge evolution programmer for my 2004 f150 fx4 supercrew. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

you clearly haven't done any research, while you're new to the forums and will more than likely start whining about my un sugar coated response BUT here it is anyway

you need to take your time and read the sticky's before you start two threads asking the same exact question...

#1 it's against the site rules
#2 it's quite rude
#3 you'll confuse yourself, like a nun at a Michael Jackson fan gathering...

the edge evo is a canned POS tuning device, basically custom tunes are the way to go and only you can decide which tuning device you want to use to hold your custom tunes and who you cant to write your tunes...

Threads have been merged.

As to your question, you really do need to read the stickies at the top of this forum. They cover a lot of info. Also, look at some of the other threads in this forum where the same question was asked. What you will find is first, you need to decide if you want canned tunes or custom. That separates the hardware, with custom being the preferred. Then you have 3 good choices, the Diablo, an SCT product or the Gryphon. You also have to decide who you want tuning it. You will have seen that there are several, all good.

One other option, if you want the gauges in one piece of hardware, you will need to go Gryphon.

Disclaimer: This is a summary presented with the best of my feeble minded ability. Any misnomers or false info is purley due to my age. Hopefully, MGDfan will be so kind as to correct any errors. LOL

Yeah, Custom tunes are "the only way" to go. Canned tunes are so "pos" like.

I wish I had gotten custom tunes, I could have had 3 extra HP.

Every time I read a tale of woe by someone waiting on corrections for custom tunes they waited 6 months for, I am secretly inside so envious.

Be careful, he will put you on his "IGNORE" list.

It was not the extra hp that was so good about my custon tunes. It was the fact that I could run 87 octane and get the same power I was getting on a canned tune with 93 octane. Paid for my custom tunes in 6 months, with the savings. That and the fact that the downshifting was vastly improved. The downshifting changes alone were worth the price and trouble of the custom tunes.

I was totally happy running the canned level 3 on my Edge for 31,000 miles. I finally gave in to the posts telling me what I was missing and ordered the custom tunes. I have about 60,000 on the custom tune and no way would I be satisfied to go back to a canned tune.

I have the solution for that:

Simply place this image in yer Sig, and it will blow right through any existing Ignore List' functionality

Awe, I wasn't downing custom tunes so much really. It was the POS part that lead me to comment.

For some, canned tunes are as far as they want to go. Someday, if I decide to go further, then I'll maybe need to get a custom tune, and if so ... then I'll do it. But I love what the canned tunes did for my truck in respects to power, response, trans shifts, and even mileage on the 87 perf tune. And with some combos, SC reports very near the same power improvements with 87 as 91 octane.

I've never yet felt the desire to run out my tank to near empty running to fill it with high test just to try the tune, with current prices, not apt to any time soon either.

Superchips claims that the Flashpaq 1865 on 2004-08 F150 with 5.4L 3V results in :
87oct Perf w/ 6K Tow = 25 hp and 28 ftlbs of torque at the wheels
93oct Perf w/ No Tow = 27 hp and 30 ftlbs of torque at the wheels
Heavy tow up to MAX = 11 hp and 11 ftlbs of torque at the wheels

Not all applications see the same increases, nor do they even always see simular between 87 and 93. I haven't seen dyno charts, but I know what a difference the 87 octane tune made and it's canned and instantly available. Last update I did increased tow from 4K to 6K.

I'm also not likely to go for a 6" lift or 38" rubber or a set of big bumpers or 4.56s or roof mounted light bars or painted emblems or blacked out tails, etc .... some others will and I'll enjoy looking at the pics and reading the stories.
