Need some advice!
Hey Mason Here, and I have a 2002 ford f-150 4 door lariat supercrew. Its a 5.4 L v8. I am currently saving money up for a chip to put in, but i am a novice when it comes to electronics and chips. I was just wondering If anybody had some advice that i need to fallow or have any ideas to reach the goal that i want. Being a v8 the truck has plenty of horsepower for me, i can hual trailers and other junk with it. What i really want is top speed, acceleration, and gas milage. I know it is hard to get speed with good gas milage. But i get an estimated 15 miles to a gallon so even just a couple of miles to a gallon more would help. My goal is to get a smooth and fast accelerating truck with a top speed over the stock (about 110 mph) speed, that gets about 17 to 18 miles to a gallon. I would like to do it without having to change up my transmission but that could be possible as well. This is why i need advice so people can tell me if im aiming to high or what chip will get me closest to my goal.
Thanks
Thanks

I can only vouche for what I have... i guess 18 isnt a far cry for hwy miles. The best I've got is 17.3 cruisin at 55mph for like 15 miles straight. I have the Gryphon and that mileage was with a 93 octane performance tune. Its got good power and will def do over 110. My speed limiter is 112mph and I've hit it a few times... on the dragstrip of course
lol im trying to be a MD state Police officer so I gotta make these things clear for my background check. lol I cant say anything for the other tuners, but I know its better than an Edge b/c i used to have it. But dont expect it to be like a diesel and go from stock to a 140hp tune and you cant start hauling major @SS and blowing smoke lol

thanks guys, but i really dont want big expensive tires. i just want like some 33 all terrains or something. and yea i understand that with bigger tries the less mpg's i get. thanks for the advice guys
Ask some of the guys who have lowered their trucks and see if that got them better mileage. I know that putting a 2.5" leveling kit in the front of mine had little to no impact on my mileage. That will also help you get to the top speed faster and more efficiently from less drag coming from the underside. If you plan on running at high speeds often or for extended periods of time you should be getting tires rated for more than the minimum 110.
Overall, the biggest factor in mileage is you. A heavy pedal wont get good mileage but sometimes a super soft pedal wont either. You just have to figure out how much to push the pedal in the city and how far you can pull off to maintain speed on the highway. I use a vacuum guage and can get 18-20 pretty easy and as high as 22(I do see this often depending on where I'm going). This is in rolling hills and old farm roads so I could probably get better. You just have to use strategy.

Yea i plan on using my truck to drag race 200 feet strip, but i also want my truck to be street legal because its my everyday driver. And that does make sense about the underside drag. But i also heard that the more lift you put the more wear you get on your tires, but tires are the least of my problems. It is also true that slower starts and stops will help my milage, but there's got to be a chip or something i can do to max my milage. And yes i have been trying to use some strategy but it just seems like to me it doesnt help that much because i have to fill up my tank every 7 days and it cost me 60 bucks and thats with 89. Maybe its the gas im using or something, but since i got my truck, a lot of people have told me that there are chips and programmers out there that will help me get a faster speed and will also help my milage. I will keep the lift in mind and will continue to use strategy chip or no chip, i just heard it would help.
Thanks a alot. appreciate the help.

This forum is full of reviews from owners with various programmers. Please read through them, decide on which one or two you think you want, and then post your questions. You'll get a lot more relevant responses with specific questions (as opposed to "I want my truck to go fast, what do I do?").
