Motor drone

I put an Edge on the truck about a month ago and I have the dreaded drone coming from the motor compartment at low RPM at about 55 to 60 MPH. After searching I have not came up with the answer will this have any ill effect on the truck? By the way it is all stock on the engine and exhaust, this is part of my confusion.

The "drone" is usually caused by adding a Cold Air Intake (CAI). You have not done that? And, you have not modified the OEM intake tube in any way?

Is the hold down bolt for the intake tight? If loose, it's possibly allowing things to vibrate.

Does the drone go away if you set the tune back to stock?

Do you have a Cold Air Intake?

The only thing done to the engine is the tuner no other add ons. I will have to check for loose bolts, never thought of that.

I thought that the drone between 1,600 and 2,000 rpm was standard on the F150.

I sure don't have it, and the 2005s are not much different than the 2004s.

That 1600 to 2000 rpm is where mine is. I need to set the truck back to stock and try it, because I don't remember if it done it stock. Heck it may just be me listening to the truck more. It does it right before it down shifts, like the tuner is holding the transmission in OD for just a hair bit longer than it use to.

I have that same drone that your describing at those speeds. I thought it might be coming from the wind turbulance entering the hole in the lower bumper opening and creating a wind tunnel type noise as air leaves that area past that mud gaurd through the holes for your trani cooler lines? Probably out to left field.

I still think it is something to due with the tuner and not shifting at the correct time on something along those lines. I am getting ready to set it back to stock and take it for a drive I will update you all in a little while.

Look at where the snorkle goes into the fender.
If its loose there that could be a cause.

I had the same drone before I done the air intake mod and after the air intake mod. My boss has the very same drone with no mods at all. A coworker has one that doesnt do it. I guess some do it some dont.

ive got it between 60-70 mph. pretty sure its because i removed the intake snorkel on my 2010, so id have to agree that its an intake/filter/snorkel issue.

I set the truck back to stock and it still does it but at a little lower speed. I think it is just the truck sucking more air to compensate for speed and torque before it shifts down, because you can let off or give a little bit of fuel and it will quit. I also think the tuner inhances it slightly due to the add fuel.

By the way I didn't remember that my truck was that weak before the tuner.

Pretty gutless.
What do they charge to convert the Edge to a Gryphon and do say a 87 performance and towing tunes.
