Flip Chip

I have been planning to install a Flip Chip in my 2004 F150 5.4L and have it dual tuned (performance, economy) once i complete my CAI, possible 80mm throttle body, electric fans and lastly TRUE duals. My question is has anyone done this for this year/body style, where can i purchase it?? I have seen the Troyer 5 setting flip chip, but it claims up too 2004 which I'm thinking is including the Heritage model. Thanks for your help

I have no idea what a Flip chip is. I do know that with the 2004 and a CAI, you are going to need custom tunes to keep from running lean. I would recommend an Xcal3, a Gryphon or possibly a Preditor. If you leave the CAI off, then the Edge is ok with it's canned tunes. Most of the custom tunes for the Gryphon that are for performance, provide some economy as well.

Hello!

Sorry Lorry sir - you cannot run a Flip-Chip in yer truck. These things require a J3 port on the PCM which all newer PCM's lack. Yer 04 5.4 has a non-J3 ECM.

OBDII diag port flash programmers are what is needed to load tuning. Bluejay is right on as usual.

You are thinking something like this one:

Yep - Legacy EECIV, EECV PCM's with J3 connectors only.

Good luck.

Well that would certainly explain why i cannot find the flip chip anywhere!! As far as my tuning goes, i will just get the next best thing (i believe) is a DYNO tune. Especially with all the mods im doing i think its the only way to unlock the true potential of the truck!! as far as my economy goes i will just keep it under 2,000 for shifting. Thanks for your help though!!

The only way to tune your truck is with a flash tuner such as a SCT Xcal 3, Gryphon, or any type of flash tuner. Please refer to the stickies at the top of the forum.
