Just want to add to this sticky.
If you currently have a CS/CTS and have custom tunes loaded on them, please just hold off on Edge's updates until Bill from PHP looks into an issue that may happen.
Jack or I will post back when its fixed.
Thanx

WOW this thread was extremely helpful. I had no idea how the custom tunes worked. It took me a little while to realize the cs/cts was an EDGE tuner and not the Gryphon tuner. This info is helpful because I am interested in getting a tuner but wasn't sure how the custom tunes worked. Thanks!
Which is better, the Gryphon or the EDGE CS/CTS for right out of the box and custom tunes?

All you really have to do to get a custom tune for the CS/CTS is provide PHP your unit's Serial Number and your truck's hex (calibration) code. And, of course, you have to pay for the tune(s). The details are on the PHP website.

Small my butt! That was a badly needed MAJOR correction.
This whole Edge/Gryphon/Evo/CS/CTS thing has me totally confused.
Hope they don't come out with a new model anytime soon.

In case anyone is confused here:

1. BOTH the Gryphon and the CS/CTS units come with canned tunes that you can use immediately. You will undoubtedly see improved performance.
2. To create your custom tunes, Bill Cohron at PHP needs the "HEX" code from your PCM, which you will be able to read once you plug the Gryphon or CS/CTS into your truck.
3. Once your custom tune(s) are ready (you can order 1, 2, or 3 - I have 2), you will receive an email notification.
4. If you have an "old style" Gryphon (monochrome screen), you plug the Gryphon into your PC, with an application called "Pegasus" (that you download from PHP) running and it installs the tunes into your Gryphon.
5. If you have a CS/CTS, you plug the unit into your PC with an application called "Fusion" (that came on a disk with your unit) running and it installs the tunes into your CS/CTS.

The answer appears to be a (conditional) "NO"...
Read the 'notes' for the Fusion and Lightning software:
http://www.edgeproducts.com/product_updates.php
And, from PHP's website FAQ section:
"Is Pegasus, Phoenix Flash, or Minotaur compatible with either a Mac or with Windows XP/Vista 64?
For a Mac, these products will only work on Intel processor Macs running OS X and using Parallels or VMware Fusion and a Windows overlay.
If running Vista 64, the software will require the download of the new USB drivers available HERE. "
Beg/borrow/steal a real pc

BTW - time to start doing this research on yer own - my typing finger is getting kinda numb

wow, this was incredibly helpful...wish I would have known this earlier (my own fault). Now I'm not confused as to why I had a "canned" tuner...I need to upgrade so I can custom tune for what I want to do to my truck.
Thanks for this sticky!

Makes it possible for the canned shifts to be loaded or adjusted and that's it plus ts+gr......which is a little bit more limited on a CS+CTS.......than a monochrome Gryphon.
None of the engine parameters are reprogrammed in the pcm....the stock af tables and timing curves are not disturbed during the programming.

My Gryphon CS shipped today!!!
I ordered my unit on the 25th with 3 custom tunes. PHP was out of stock due to their holiday sale, and Edge was closed all last week. I'm sure it will be worth the wait though.
