Custom Tune Octane Question

Ok boys so I've been here some time now and have learned SOOO MUCH stuff the last several months. I have also spent a TON of money too

I am planning on getting true dual Dynomax Bullets 18" mufflers 45'd out the back and going to do the DWV Intake Mod. So I want to get the most out of my engine performance wise. So I want to get my custom tune from Bill & Corey.

So my question is what tune should I get from them? I am debating btwn. 89 performance or 93 Performance. I don't know if there is a huge difference or not. That is my biggest question. I don't fill up with anything in my truck but 89-93 octane.

So which octane is better? Also I am running the Canned tune "3" 93 Performane. What are the best things to do for the "custom tune" this tune? When it asks you when you are installing it on the gryphon shift points etc..

Thanks Guys

I purchased a 93 Performance and an 87 Performance from PHP. 93 should be better.

The two custom tunes I got were 93 perf and 87 mileage. My mpg doesn't differ that much between 93 and 87. It's more fun for me to drive in 93 perf, though so I am rarely using 87. I'd say if you're doing 89+ anyway, go ahead and get the 93 perf tune.

If I had to do it again I'd just get the 93 perf to go along with stock, since it's all I run anyways. Save the money and just pick one if you don't plan on switching it that often.

What do you mean? I have 3 tunes available: stock, 87 tow, and 93 perf. Were you asking what to do with the last tune? I left mine stock---I think Bill tweaks the shift points and a few other things a bit, but don't hold me to that.

I just meant on the canned tunes when you are putting the canned tunes in it asks you if you want to customize your program, then it is a check yes or no. I think its shift points and stuff like that was wondering if anybody messed with those at all

Gotcha. Yeah there are a lot of little tweaks you can do based on how you like the truck to perform. Since Bill did my custom tunes, though, the only thing I mess with is tire size. The speedometer is slightly off so I adjust tire size to correct it. Other than that I don't mess with it. You should be able to adjust most of that stuff without any trouble. The manual specifies what does what.

This might help.

When I ran the 93 octane in canned lvl 3, I had the timing to 1.5 since you must go up 0.5 per octane rating, and I had 5200 shidft points in 1st - 2nd, 2nd - 3rd, and 4800 for 3rd - 4th, and 5600 rev limit. 180mph speed limiter , and sligthly upped the shift firmness just so it didn't feel lazy like stock.

To be honest, it was more fun than my custom 87 file.. But 93 octane does burn better and will make the engine run stronger. No real MPG differences, cant afford to run 93 right now but when I can I will have an 93 file created.

X2.

I run a 93 octane tune at all times.

The cost difference between 87 and 93 really isn't very much, especially as overall gas prices increase. Last time I filled the tank, regular was $2.79 and 93 was $3.02, so a difference of $0.23/gallon. With a 22 gallon fill up, that's only $5.06 more for the 93. Regular would cost $61.38 for 22 gallons vs. $66.44

I think it's worth it to run the better fuel, even if you don't see an MPG improvements. I do have a 87 performance tune just in case I'm somewhere that doesn't carry 93.

That's how I see it too, thats why I run 89 or 93 at all times. I filled up for $3 difference between 89 & 93 so I think I can afford it. I did the math roughly how much I spend per year on gas and its $200 more per year by going to 93. Its cleaner burning anyways who knows whats in 87 octane now

93 is a $6.40 difference for me because I usually fill up with 32 gallons every tank since I have the big 35.7 gallon tank. My last fill up with 93 was $95.

yeah my tank is only 30 gallons I do believe. It usually takes me 22-25 gallons to fill up that is usually under a 1/4 tank
