Best programmer for an 04?

hey guys i got a 04 f150 wit the 5.4 airraid intake and gibson exhaust. i currently have the hypertech III and i really want a new programmer because not that its a bad programmer but its incredably slow to load. i have been hearing a lot about the edge evolution and how they offer up to 35 hp and i read somewhere that the new hypertech max energy offeres up to 50hp (sounds like bull to me) but i was wondering if anyone has experiened a couple different programers and yall's thoughts on what the best one as far as changing power levels and getting the most hp would be..

I don't have a programmer for my 09 5.4L (not available yet), but based on all the research (reviews from owners) I've done on several boards, the Gryphon is the best 'bang for the buck' especially if you have performance mods (CAI and exhaust).

PHP can write a custom tune for your exact mods.

And, I think 50 HP is a real "stretch" in the performance gains department. Realistically, I think you can expect a 25-35 HP increase with a programmer in a gasser, not more than that.

Just put my Gryphon in last week, it is the first programmer I have had so I can not compare it to others. What I can say is I am pleased with the performance I get out of it with canned tunes, this will only get better with custom tunes. The guages it provides are very useful and as far as changing between levels (3 total) its very simple and fast. It can be done in under a minute (with the exception of the first time after install because it has to read your pcm and build its files first).

performance chips are somthing you normally just plug in and it adjusts shift points and fuel to air ratio according to what it is set at at there factory you really cant change anything on them they give you more horse power and torque

Now a Flash programer (power programer) you actually plug in and it downloads your stock computer settings and uploades a whole new set of files. they impove throttle responce horse power and torque. it also adjusts the fuel curves just like a chip but will normally ask you if you wanna run 89 or 93 octane gas ( of corse the better the gas selection you choose the more ***** your gonna get out of the truck. programers also help correct speedometers if you have added larger tires, icrease your shift firmness, and change your shift points... you can also tell it what gears you have in your differential too

many brands to choose from::

Hypertech
Supercips
JET
EDGE
Diablo Sport
Bully DOG
BANKS

thats just a few of them most people here are going with the EDGE wich has a monitor that mounts on your dash and you can select from canned tunes wich are tunes from EDGE prorformance made by them strictly for your F-150
BUT from what i understand that is good for if you have mainly a stock truck and if you dont and you have a good bit of mods done like CAI ( col air intake) Performance exhaust if you regeared your truck or anything like that you can send your edge programer off to Powerhungryperformance and they completly reprogram your programer tuning the edge into a Gryphon wich has more options for modified trucks
but the basic edge is still good infact thats what is in the mail on its way to my house right now.... i currently have a Hypertech III its a handheld unit you plug in and it does all that stuff just really slow haha thats why i got the edge comeing because it is much faster whenswitching from setting to setting do some reasearch on the brands i listed above they allhave there own site but DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM you can normally finde them cheaper... alot cheaper if you have any questions feel free to ask on here but keep in mind when doing your reasearch if they say anything like a 100 horsepower gain there talkin about diesle trucks a gas truck will tipically only get anywhere from 15- 30 horsepower wich is still good i only ganed like 20 mabey with my hypertech and i'm doin burn outs with 40 inch tires but of corse i got more stuff then just a programer but they help alot

tsunamimike, what size tires did you run before you went to 40's? I assume you would not have regeared to 4:10's if you knew you were going with a a tire that big, you would have prob run 4:88's.

Max hp potential with the 4.6 N/A is probably around 25hp on 93oct.
The tuners recomended around here are PHP, VMP, and Troyer.
If your 04 is not the heritage then your limited to the power programmer which will run between 150-800. Depends on which one you get and weather its new or used.
Try to look for the ones like edge(upgradable to gryphon), gryphon, xcal2+3, they can accomandate custom tunes.
If your planning any big changes look for the tuners that can have custom tunes.

Check out the SCT Xcal3 from VMP Tuning. Don't expect 50 hp though, you'll end up with an extra ~25 rwhp. I'd also highly recommend regearing that truck! Preferably 4.88s would do it good!
