Talking settings on the evo

Hey guys just got my evo in today and i have level 2 loaded right now, can yall give me some opinions on the custom settings as far as the wot shifting, shift firmness, rev limiter, speed limiter, wot fuel. id just like to get a idea what everyone is running and then i can adjust to them accordingly. id like for it to be more on the performance side. Im not going to run level 3 yet since im sitting on a full tank of 87.Thanks Waiting for yalls reply.

Just make sure you do your FIRST tune without even opening the Custom Options menu. That lets the programmer build its stock files properly.

After that, I suggest you drive it a while to get the feel of what it's like. The tunes in the device are already better than the stock tune. You can only improve things so far. Bluejay has suggested adding about +12, +12 and +9 to the three different WOT shift "firmness" settings. I would not go much above that. You MAY want to raise your rev limit - I'd suggest no higher than 5600, and your max speed to whatever you wish. You WILL HAVE TO MANUALLY CHECK AND SET your Tire Size (TS) and Gear Ratio (GR) if you open the Custom Options menu! If you don't the TS WILL be wrong and the GR may be too. I doubt you need to adjust WOT fuel, but if you do, I think 1.3 is about as high as I would go. And, I'd leave the timing alone. It's already set properly for the gas you're using (unless you're using 89 octane gas in an 87 octane tune).

Hope this helps. Don't get too aggressive. Make small changes to one thing at a time and see how you like the effect.

It's not really a thread jack. If the Edge defaults to 1.4, that's probably fine.

The WOT fuel is kind of a mystery to me. It controls the total fuel that CAN be delivered if the engine demands it at WOT. My custom tunes have it at 1.3 for towing (I think), and 1.25 for highway economy. I've never felt my engine was fuel starved at WOT throttle - ever! And, a couple of people have reported problems when trying to raise the WOT fuel limit, which makes no sense to me, but it shows there can be an undesirable interaction between WOT fuel and the other settings. Leaving WOT at default seems the safest course.

I will be ordering my Gryphon this week with the 87 economy tune. I will run it on level 2 but I do not drive the truck hard at all (at msot 2k 2100 rpms and that is just getting on the highway when it is busy so it is rare to go above 2k). When I place the order and receive the Gryphon, should I make any adjustments to the settings other than the gear ratio (3.55 and tire size)? I just want good fuel economy and a smoother shifting truck with a bit more get-up and go

I keep mine on level 3 (93 perf) pretty much all the time so the go is always there if I want it. However, I do also like to get decent gas mileage the rest of the time. I set my converter lock points and 3-4 shift point -8 I believe. This lets me get into 4th with the TC locked when I am just putting around town at about 40. Like that the avg. econ. shows 19-23 but it screams when I mash the skinny pedal if I want to get around people. Before I did this it would be in fourth but the converter would be unlocked and the avg. econ. would show about 15. I like it and it seems like its the best of both worlds.

If the Gear Ratio (GR) and Tire Size (TS) are OEM, you will not have to set anything. The programmer will read those values from the VID section of the PCM when it builds your tune file. Even if one or both of these are not OEM, you should tune your truck the first time WITHOUT trying to adjust anything. This lets the programmer build it's "stock" file properly. After that first tune, you can go back, select the same tune, and this time say "Yes" to the "Custom Program option" so that you can adjust both GR and TS. You will have to check and possibly set BOTH or them if you choose the Custom Options menu!

5100 wot 1-2
5100 wot 2-3
4600 wot 3-4
5400 max rpm

+9+9+9 shift firmess

Do these sound decent???

Your max rpms should always be at least 400 above your highest shift point, so 5500.

Bluejay's correct on the max RPM. For tire size, your tires are 2392mm with no weight on them. I'd suggest 2392 x 0.97 = 2320mm as a starting point to account for "squish".

I have never gotten better mileage with a tune, but I have a lot more fun getting there and love to feel the "go". The thing is, I get to do that without losing any mpg.

its crazy how you get use to the soft transmission then go to a little harder shift and your thinking to your self is everything alright. I punched it around a corner earlier today and it hit second and threw the truck sideways, Its a pretty cool toy
