Question Accuracy of Edge Evolution???

I just installed an Edge on a '03 4x4 Screw and after plugging in the device and reading the stock numbers on the PCU it's says my stock gears are a 3.31. Is that correct? I didn't even know they went that low or actually that high for the 4x4 screws. I thought it might be a 3.55...

My current non stock tires are a 265/75R16 which I believe are 31.9" tall and was looking to crank the torsion bars up front to fit 33's, but am concerned w/a 3.31 gear.

Any thoughts or idea's???

What does your door tag axle code show?

Doesn't. All I see are weights, front & rear and tire & rim size.

A few numbers/codes on the bottom, but I do not know what the numbers mean. Nothing that seems to resemble a gear ratio.

If the edge is setup like the gryphon. You should be able to go into a custom option menu before you program the truck to whatever level you are going to do?
What you probably saw is numbers that are called place holding numbers.

1. Pick the level.
2. Then something should ask you if you want to create a custom file. Pick yes.
3. Then before you do anything else hit load previous settings. And that should extract the values out of the pcm. That is if you haven't hit done in a previous session.

That's about the same and I did all that. When I first plugged it in it shows the factory settings and I was a little thrown off when I saw a 3.31 gear. I thought the 4x4 screw had a minimum of a 3.55.

Just a little concerned about putting taller tires on it...

I'm pretty sure you have to change that in the setting menu. I would find out for sure then do that.

Do you own or have access to a gps?

Put your gear size in and your current tire size. Then go for a drive use the gps to compare the speeds. If its off then you know you have the wrong gear and better find the right one.

Here something from JackandJanet from PHP's forum.
Q: I switch programs from stock to a custom tune and when I go to check my Tire Size (TS) and Gear Ratio (GR) in the Custom Options menu, I find one or both of them is always wrong! Why?......A: The Custom Options menu was not written as a tool to check any value. It was written so that you could make changes to some of the parameters used in your tune. Since the Custom Options menu was designed for you to change things, it loads simple "placeholder" values into the custom tune for TS and GR and it is probable that one or both of these is incorrect. You will need to replace these placeholder values with correct values if you find that they are wrong.Q: But why can't the Custom Options menu load my correct values for TS and GR instead of the incorrect placeholder values?A: It will, if you immediately scroll to "Load Previous Settings" and press [Enter] as soon as you open the Custom Options menu. This will recover and reuse all the option settings you used in your last tune. It is a quick way to get back to where you were before. From this point, you can make further changes, which are saved in a revised "previous settings" file.

Thanx Jack!

Now Jack is pretty good on giving instructions.

I also think by posting up some of those numbers on the door jamb, we all could help you some more!

On the door tag, there is a place for the axle code. Not the ratio, a code. It will be 2 numbers such as 19 or a letter and a number such as B9. Get that code and tell us what it is.

X2! The value you are looking for is right under the word: "Axle". Mine says "B6", which means 3.73 Limited Slip. (Too bad they have to invent a code for something so simple, isn't it?)

And, just to emphasize what was said earlier - the Edge WILL NOT tell you your axle ratio!

And, if you put taller tires on your truck, it's the same as reducing your axle ratio. Good/Bad? Only you can decide.

No, they have not changed for years.
F-150:
19 – 3.55 Non-LS
18 – 3.08 Non-LS
H9 – 3.55 LS
B6 – 3.73 LS

So, unless someone changed your gears, you have 3.55 Non -LS. If the Edge defaults to anything but that, you need to change it. Also, make sure that the number for your tires is what you actually have on the truck now.

Great. I was hoping for at least a 3.55. I've already adjusted the tire size's now it looks like I need to adjust the gear size...

BTW, any idea what a 3.31 code would be???
