SCT XCalibrator 2 Computer code

There is one for sale in my area on craigslist.

While looking up the item on http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...catalogno=9400 I noticed they want my trucks computer code inorder to buy a new one from them.

Any idea what if this will work on my truck if the computer code is different?

They want your HEX code to use for custom tunes. Goto sct main web site link:http://www.sctflash.com/ to check for compatibility.
Hopefully the seller puts his vehicle back to stock before selling it so the tuner isn't locked. The tuner may have to be updated to the latest firmware revisions to work on your vehicle.

If that unit has custom tunes on it, they will be written for the HEX code of his truck only. The tunes will be for his mods. You will have to get all new custom tunes written for your HEX code.

If it has customs on it there is a slim chance it will work with your vehicle. It will need to be redone with canned tunes back on it and then you find a tuner to write some customs for your truck's HEX code.
Here's another link for firmware upgrades:http://www.sctflash.com/getupdates.ph

Have another related question.

So "unlocked" means that for this model, it has 3 factory loaded tunes for the Ford vehicles listed with this model tuner. Those would be performance, economy and towing tunes? Or will I still have to purchase custome tunes? Aside from an upgraded stereo system Truck is stock, so i dont believe I will need custome tunes. Is there anything else I should check before purchaing a used tuner?

If you get a used tuner.
If the previous owner has a brain fart and forgets to set his vehicle back to stock before selling it that tuner is locked to his vin. So in order for you to use it you gotta get it unlocked because his stock program is still in there. Xcal also locks after 5 uses on 5 different vins. So by using some of the other info in this thread you can get them unlocked.
You can run canned tunes all you want but they are generic. But customs wake your truck up even more.

Thanks 88!

So, hypothetically speaking... I call Troyer to order the Xcal 2. I tell them my truck is stock. Do you think they would recommend using the canned tunes or do you think they have custom tunes for a stock 02 F150 4.2L?

They are good guys at Troyer they can probably answer that. Give them a call and see what they have to say.

Just remember custom tunes cost some coin. But are sometimes cheaper when bought with the tuner.
