Truck's Lifted now take it to dealer for speedometer adjustment or get chip/tuner

So I got the truck lifted and got the 33in tires and wheels on it and it LOOKS great now i need it to RUN great and have the speedometer read the RIGHT speed. My question to you guys is what experience do you guys have with tuners (like em, hate em, hard to use, easy to use) becuase i am not a very savvy person when it comes to engines. Or if you would say to just take the truck to the dealer to have the speedometer adjusted? And if you would get the tuner what would you reccomend? I posted this here because i had no idea what the heck any of the stuff in the performance chips, and tuners thread meant :help:

I would not want to drive my truck without a custom tune. Get either a Gryphon or an Xcal3.

Your other question, they are very easy to use.

custom tuning!!!!

talk to PHP, VMP, or Troyer or you can have it dyno'd locally if you prefer.

i have had my xcal2 for 23,000 miles not one single problem, makes the truck so much better to drive.

dad has had his gryphon for roughly 24k miles and no problems, only complaint is his 87 tunes the tranny shift points are all effed up, and its gonna ruin his clutch if he doesn't get it fixed but thats only when shifting at WOT.

sister has the edge, its ok, i had it truck broke down twice so i got rid of it.

for the price custom tuning is the way to go, i paid $410 shipped for mine, dad got a deal on his gryphon i think $435 shipped.

with these tuners you can put in your tire size so it will reprogram your speedo correct?

That is correct, plus you will recover the lost power. Also, if you decide to change tire/wheel height at a later date, all you have to do is enter the new size.

Lifted Truck, Bigger Tires, Speedometer if off, Thinking about buying a tuner, HELP!

So i got the truck lifted and put the bigger tires on and everything is great but the speedometer is off and instead of taking it to the dealer and getting it adjusted for 100 bucks ive heard that i could buy a tuner and program that as well as get the truck running great! I dont know anything about the whole tuning/programming the truck thing and am just wondering what my options are as far as a tuner for my 04 5.4L f150? If someone could help me out and get me pointed in the right direction that would be great! Also i have no experience with tuners so how user friendly are they?

is the tire size selection standard on all tuners out there or how would i know the one i get has it as an option?

It's standard on the top brands. Don't know about the lesser known ones. If you stick to Xcal, Gryphon or even the Edge, it's standard.

The Edge and the Gryphon are the same hardware. The Edge can not be custom tuned, you are limited to the canned tunes that are good but are written for the stock intake. If you want a CAI, you really need custom tunes. The Gryphon can be tuned by Bill at PHP. The Edge and Gryphon both have a monitor that I really depend on. The XCal3 is very good and Troyer is great with their custom tunes. That is why I say you can't go wrong with Troyer or Bill at Power Hungry Performance.

im leaning towards PHP and the Gryphon it souds like bill is great at the custom tunes and that is what i would like to do with my truck being that there area a lot of aftermarket factors that go into how it runs...

I ran the Edge canned tunes for about 31,000 miles and then got an 87 Preformance and a 93 Performance tune from PHP. I have about 24,000 on mostly the 87 Perf and it is great.

Question Are the 87 and 93 performance tunes referring to 87 and 93 octane fuel or not?

Yes, that is correct. Around here, we have 87, 89 and 93.
