Custom tune question.
Hi i am getting ready to swap a 5.4 into my 97 4.6 f150. The motor will be a built dss block with ported heads pi cams longtubes ported intake 75mm throttle body 90mm maf and 42lb injectors. Now to get it tuned i was hoping to get a custom dyno tune form anderson ford motorsports because they are only 2 hours away. But after i talked with their dyno guy he said that he didn't think the predator tuner would work on anything before 1998. and that even if it did he wouldnt even know where to start. I was under the impression that it was pretty simple to tune the 4.6 pcm for the 5.4. just adjust for the extra cubes and the injectors and maf? What do you guys think about this. Obviously this swap has been done many times before and can be done?
I think you are right. Displacement, maf and injectors should do it. As I recall the only wiring mods are lengthening a couple of wires??
Look up JMC's 5.4/4.6 swap write up in the tech-howto section.

Use a more common tuner - One of the 3. Haven't heard of anyone using a predator ? Which does Anderson sell and/or support?

the 5.4 can be run on the coil packs and wires and has nothing to do with the tune

I like sct also.
A couple of us here have used Don LaSota. He's very quick with tunes and retunes, usually overnight.

Yea i just looked at Don's website and im definitely going to have to give him a call. I like the idea that you base the base rate then your tunes are free till its right. Ive heard Troyer is the best in the business but his wait times are ridiculous and that would **** me off. So it looks like if i buy everything from don its goin to be about 760 bucks for both the X3 and the wideband kit. The wideband kit is 400 bucks. Should i get his or get one somewhere else? Thanks guys for all your help. I don't know how people do this without sites like this!!!!
Yea i looked at those. Another thing i came across was the aeroforce interceptor. I can get it and the wideband kit for 400 bucks and monitor A/F and all the parameters from the OBDII port. It seems like that would be the way to go. Will it still read the wideband when i have to unplug it from the OBDII port to tune and datalog?
Don is an awesome guy! VERY fast at getting tuned to you. He has done alot of chips for me and tuned my friends ProCharged '99 Cobra as well via email and it is a monster! He has alot of experience and is the one that makes the SCT tuning CD plus is one of the co-authors of the SCT tuning manual....
Bill did a chip or my buddies OBS Powerstroke and it's a monster now...! Another great guy to deal with!
