to chip or not to chip

I am a newbie at this stuff so am looking for some advice. I have an 04 Screw FX4 and would like to think I could get better mileage. I have read some post and it sounds like a "gryphon" or "edge" is the way to go. Another guy stated that something along these lines will give the truck a more solid shift, easier on the tranny. Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks

On the 2004 up, you don't chip, you program with a tuner. The Gryphon comes from www.powerhungryperformance.com. The other best selling device is an Xcal3 tuned by Troyer Performance.

I have a gryphon from PHP and it definitely firms the shift points up and takes out the throttle lag. As far as the mileage, I dont know that you will see enough to pay for your expense, but I think overall it is worth it.
