Shift Points

I keep reading that one of the features for these programmers (hypertech, superchip, edge etc) say that they will correct shift points. Obviously they are talking about after changing tire size and/or axle ratio, right? Also, how do these changes (tires/gears) alter the shift points? Arent shift points determined by RPMs, regardless of speed? Anyhow, just tryin be an informed consumer. Preciate the help.

Shift points are based on MPH.

The shift points on our trucks are based on mph and throttle position and can be adjusted. For example if you raise your wot 1-2 shift speed from 12mph to 17mph the engine will rev higher to reach that speed

Fitz, I don't think you mean WOT shift points here, at least this is not the case for the Gryphon/Edge. You CAN increase/decrease the WOT RPM shifts, but you can also increase/decrease the normal shift speed points, which are the ones that are dependent on speed and throttle position.

You are correct but with the sct as far as I know you can only adjust wot shifts via mph witch affects what rpm the truck shifts at and the normal shifts are adjusted by the custum tuner and cant be adjusted by the user.

Cool, another bit of input to the database (If I can remember it with my rapidly fading brain cells, that is).

If you have a Gryphon, you can adjust the WOT shift RPMs. And, you can adjust the "normal" upshift/downshift speeds and, "normal" torque converter lock/unlock speeds as a user option (within certain limits). I've adjusted this to prevent what I think is a tendency of the engineered torque control in this truck to downshift/unlock me too soon under mild load.

Imo the sct has the opposite problem the torque converter stays locked to long.Going up hill in od it will not down shift untill the rpm gets pulled down to 1100rpm with steady throttle. To get it to down shift you have to push the go pedal down.Good for mpgs though:thumbsup:

That's interesting too, fitz. Can the tuner adjust this for you? (Or are you running a "canned" tune)?

It DOES seem like there ought to be a little user adjustable "play" in settings like this, doesn't there?

Yes the tuner can adjust it.I talked with him about it and he told me to try it for awhile before we change it.A locked coverter is power to the wheels and good mpgs he says.Im locked up at 40 mph in od maybe im getting old driving like a grampa.Someone else on hear I think it was sin city had vmp tunes same thing and had them change it so it didnt lock untill 50mph.

All tuning has both, and it is set on which ever comes first, MPH or RPM.
