Edge and dead battery
Edge and dead battery
So, I must have left the dome light on in my 2005. It has been in the teens here in chicago. I went to start the truck and it was dead. I put it on the charger and got it started. The problem is the edge screen didnt light up. Started fine, ran fine. Got home from work, shut the truck off went to start it this morning and no start. full charged battery but no start at all. And the screen still wont light up.....Could it be that the bulb burned out on the edge? I want to try and get it back to the stock program so I can scrap the edge and buy a gryphon. Has this happened to anyone? When I unplug the Edge, still no start. If I plug it into my PC and try and update it with Fusion, it says to return the truck to stock and then try and update. This tells me that the Edge is still holding the progarm. Could I try and figure out the sequence to try and get it back to stock?(mode, down, down, enter, turn key off, turn key on, wait 1 minute. start?)........WTF happened?????
the edge program stays with the truck, so unplugging the edge does nothing...
I'm thinking the batt is not full enough to start the edge, let alone the truck....
throw a charger on it for a while and try again?

The Edge does not like low battery voltage. If you can get your battery charged, you should be able to start the truck - the Edge is acting like a monitor now and has no effect on the PCM, which means it can't stop your truck from starting. And, there's no "bulb" in the Edge - it uses an LCD screen.
To get your Edge back to working condition, take it off the truck and leave it inside the house to warm up (the display does not like cold conditions either). Then, if the battery is charged enough to start the truck, turn the engine off but leave the ignition to the ON position and plug the Edge in. It has to "see" the PCM to initialize. (Anytime you unplug the Edge or recover from a dead battery you have to initialize the Edge by re-plugging it in with the ignition already ON).
Like shorse, I think your battery is weak. I'd consider having it tested or get a new one.

The Edge is telling you the battery is too waek. You need a new battery, or possible the altenator is not charging the battery properly.

It sounds like you might need to replace your battery.
Jim and Jack are both right... a low or dead battery will cause the Evo not to boot up. There are 4 seperate LEDs on the Evo, so the likelihood that all of the burned out is extremely remote.
One other thing to check is the Cig. Lighter fuse as it is the same circuit as the OBD-II Port. This may have blown and is causing the Evo not to work.
Hope this helps.

So, the old battery was *****. Bought a optima red top. Installed battery, unplugged edge at the edge, turned key to on with no start, plugged in Edge and.......nothing. Edge wont come, wont light up....nothing. Truck starts no problem. Cigarette lighter works fine so the fuse isnt popped.......WTF? I want to send the Edge to PHP to get a gryphon update, but I cant get the Edge to turn on so I can get it back to stock.......HELP!!!! Do you think the new battery is too low for the edge to start or what???
this happened to my edge, i sent it in and they replaced my screen....and sent it back...the only problem now is sometimes when is start my truck it will display a blank screen with only the leds lit up

Someone posted on here a short time ago saying that Edge replaced their unit when it wouldn't accept a firmware upgrade I think, and the Edge was a couple year old.
The only other thing I can think of that COULD be causing your trouble is that the OBD cable is faulty. I seem to remember Bill helping out a member who had that problem.
If Fusion is "seeing" your Edge and telling you it's not at stock, it really sounds like the Edge is functioning.
Hve you tried "resetting" the OBDII plug in that port? (You said you unplugged/replugged yours at the Edge, which is the way I do it, but perhaps the connection at the port is poor).

Yeah, unplugged at OBD II port. I just noticed the Dome light when you open the door is out. Could the doomlight fuse or relay be out and thats causing a NO light upon the EDGE.... Doesnt seem like it should...
When mine freezes up I unplug it for awhile and let the truck warm up and let the edge warm up, then i turn the key forward and plug it in. I'm waiting for a day when I get off work early enough to call edge and find out if I have any options.
Does anyone have an update on this problem? I am having almost the exact same thing happen. When it got really cold around St. Louis a few months ago I walked out to my truck and found my edge was turned on (green backlight but no text). My battery was dead so I had to jump it. The battery is not even 6 months old. Now my edge isn't displaying anything. The backlight is always on but once again no text.
I actually had a similar thing happen to me a few months before this incident. However, after taking my Edge inside and letting it warm up, it displayed just fine. I was hoping this was the case again but nope. It's weird cause the backlight is always on even when I turn off my truck except after a few days it turns on and off with the key but still no text. I think it's working fine and gets stuck on the disclaimer screen whenever I actually unplug it from the truck port and plug it back in. I just can't see the text to accept the disclaimer.
I too am out of warranty and just want to get my truck back to stock. I guess I just need to call Edge but I thought I'd see what you guys had to say.
