You are not going to believe this, but I bet your battery is still too weak or is damaged. Has enough juice to start the truck, but not enough for the Edge display. I'm assuming that you plug the unit in with the key on.

Bluejay's right! What is your "resting" battery voltage? It should be in the 12.6+ volts range. If it's in the 12.2 volt range, the battery is half dead - might start the truck, but that's about all.

The Edge DOES NOT LIKE LOW VOLTAGE! And, it has to be initialized with the key ON, engine OFF at a good voltage before it will work properly.

If you have a charger, plug it in. Disconnect the Edge from the OBDII port. Let the charger do it's thing for a while and then, without removing the charger, turn the ignition ON. With the ignition ON and the engine off, the Edge should initialize. Then, you can start your engine and drive your truck to the nearest battery place to replace your battery.

Does changing the battery have any effects on Edge tunes? Should the truck be placed back to stock before changing the battery, or does that not matter?

It is recommended that everytime you initialize the edge that you put a charger on the battery for the extra juice isn't it? I think I read that somewhere.

You do not need to return to stock before changing a battery. I'd disconnect the Edge from the OBDII port though. Then, once the new battery is in, make sure you have the ignition ON before the Edge is plugged back into the OBDII port.

You don't need to have a charger on the battery to initialize the Edge if you have a healthy battery. A charger just "simulates" a healthy battery if the one you have is weak.

Thanks for clearifying that Jack. I guess if you have a battery charger, it wouldn't hurt to hook it up just to make sure that everything goes well.

Yes, and that's what I've tried to say in other posts. You do not want a low voltage situation when you're trying to write into the PCM's EPROM. I think this would apply to any programmer, like the XCal series.

So I checked the Voltage on my battery and it was down to about 11.8v after an hour drive. Battery was still under warranty so I took it back and put in a new one. Edge still didn't display anything. Voltage was at 12v with the new battery so I stuck a charger on it and got it up to 14v. Edge still doesn't display. Looks like I'm going to get a hold of Edge on Monday to send the unit back and try to get a new one.

Sylent, I'm guessing everything was fine with sending the unit back while your truck was still programmed (not to stock). Did you have any problems with Edge or were they pretty quick to take care of your programmer out of warranty? Other than the $50 charge that is. Let me know how it turns out for you.

You have to call Edge an get a return order number. I sent it out there and 4 days later they called to tell me the screen was shot. Its 20 below here in Chicago so thats why they think the LCD is damaged. They fixed it, called for a credit card # for the 50 buck, and it should be here this week.....
