does extreme cold affect tuners?

Just wondering how tuners/programmers are affected if anything during initial startup and driving during temps around 0 deg? Especially since this past weekend the highest temp was around -1 deg and windchills were between -15 and -20.

I can advise you not to program or re-program your vehicle when the vehicle or tuning device have been in temperatures around the freezing mark.
You want a fully charged battery, and I would suggest you warm your tuning device prior to input to the PCM.

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but, if the program is already in the PCM, then no, the cold won't affect it anymore than it would a stock tune. I don't think I would be entering a new tune in extreme cold. I would at least be close to freezing temp.

Now, if you have an Edge or Gryphon monitor, the cold can affect the display. Extreme heat does, as well. But that has no affect on the program that is already in the PCM.

All I know is I get like 50 HP when it's cold outside.

But yea, don't upload tunes when it's cold outside. If it's already uploaded, there shouldn't be a problem.

The display is just a little slow to react. That is the only issue I've had but ya kinda gotta expect that with LCD.

Like Blue said you want a good charged battery and make sure your accessories are off (i.e. radio, fan, etc.) You want the ECM to warm up internally which will happen just by doing some normal driving. Once it is warm you should be o.k.

This is really good advice. The battery must be at its best charge when doing this. I also make sure everything is turned off radio, fan and any other gizmos you have setup to turn on when the key on. Keep the turner in the house until you are ready to reprogram and make sure the truck has run and at operating temp too. Doing these steps will really help in making the tune install easy.
