Calibration ID Quick Question

Hello all,

If I read a calibration id on a scan tool of xxxxxxxx.HEX, and a shop flashes the PCM with newer software, will that calibration ID change?

I want to be able to tell if they change the software, using my scan tool.

Thanks!

Kevin

YES! When the PCM is reprogrammed, the HEX name will change. Your scan tool should be able to keep you up-to-date on what your current calibration is.

Thanks for the quick reply... Last time my truck was at the dealer, the guy had said "we even upgraded your vehicles software included in the charge."

I checked with my saved files from the tool, and lo and behold, it had the same calibration ID.

Now, my truck was there for the last 3 weeks. When I brought it to him, I politely said they must have forgotten to do that, and he misspoke. He said it was done this time, and I get it home and just checked, and same calibration ID.

They are a horrible dealer, and I have to bring it back, after 3 weeks of incompetence, as it sounds liket there are wrenches floating around under the hood when I go over bumps.

I wish I could just use a J2534 tool and reprogram this myself.

Any suggestions you have, as you are a programming guru, would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Also, after checking the motorcraft site, it says the latest calibration s part # 4U7A-GPC. Is there any way to know what the calibration ID would be for this?

I am sick of being lied to, for a myriad of issues, by this dealership.

You may be able to use your J2534 tool with the Motorcraft update software. Check here...

Ford Module Programming Software Application for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Vehicles

Peruse the supported tools and see if yours is included. If so, then you can update your vehicle yourself.

Also on that page is the Excel spreadsheet of the all the calibrations and their successors. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the HEX filenames... just the part numbers.

On Edit:

4U7A-GPC is an RXAQ6A7. It is the latest calibration for your vehicle. The current progression is this...

4U7A-GPA - RXAQ5A3
4U7A-GPB - RXAQ5A6
4U7A-GPC - RXAQ6A7

Hope this helps.

Thanks!... I had just run outside, and got it for you... RXAQ3AZ.

This may be an older one, unless the catchword is wrong (perhaps you can check this HEX for me, to be sure)

I do not have the programmer, just a scan tool. I would even buy a programmer, if I could make changes myself. Is the ford software configurable, as to additional programming options? (tire size, etc)

Either way, I just want this truck fixed.

Thanks for checking this one out, too.

Here's the full list for that truck.

Calibration - Old Part - New Part

RXAP7A4 - 4L3A-ADA - 4L3A-ADC
RXAQ1A5 - 4L3A-ADC - 4L3A-ADD
RXAQ2A6 - 4L3A-ADD - 4L3A-ADE
RXAQ3AZ - 4L3A-ADE - 4U7A-GPA
RXAQ5A3 - 4U7A-GPA - 4U7A-GPB
RXAQ5A6 - 4U7A-GPB - 4U7A-GPC
RXAQ6A7 - 4U7A-GPC -

Yours is in the middle of the group at this time and CERTAINLY not on the latest reflash.

Take care.

Just an update...

Dealership finally got the upgrade done - afte telling me four times it had been done.

Still there since 11/19 getting the same handful of things fixed.

Unbelievable. Still have not addressed everything I wanted, but as best as I could hope for under an extended warranty...

Thanks, Bill, for your help... You helped me confirm that the PCM flash was done!
