JB - Sent a note to Edge last night and got this response a little bit ago. I'm running the update now. Hope they got you figured out as well.

Go ahead and update your unit again it has been targeted to version with the fix for that problem.

Well, got home a couple hours ago and ran the new update. When I hooked it back up to my truck, I gat a new error code. Called Edge tech support and the tech had me hook my evo up to my computer and talked me through some troubleshooting and ran a new update. I lost the call before it finished, but hooked it up to the truck after downloading and everything works fine now, even better! I usually always run my truck in level 3 and get about 15.5 mpg city, now just got back from a drive around town with a heavy foot and averaged almost 19mpg. I don't know what they did but I like this new update!!

Forget to mention, Edge Technical Support was great. Very pleased with them. They took the time to help me out even though it was closing time for them. First class!

Ah - not to burst your bubble or anything, but I'm guessing the MPG figure you're suddenly getting might possibly be due to inaccurate gear or tire size settings?

In the custom menu options, check what the Edge is storing for your gear ratio and your tire circumference. If it's not right correct it and then reload the tune.

I think your previous 15.5 MPG was much more realistic than the 19 MPG you reported after the upgrade. (Or, are you going off of the Edge's "guestimate" of MPG? It can be off by quite a bit due to a number of factors that cannot be programmed into the Edge. The only way to determine MPG correctly is to divide gallons put in at fillup by miles driven since last fillup. And, those miles on the odometer have to be the result of correct gear and tire sizes programmed into the PCM.)

But, I'm delighted that the technical support at Edge was able to solve your problem. Good on them!

You're right I was going by Edge's guestimate. It has always been pretty much correct when I do the math. My Evo is programmed with my correct gear ratio(3.73) and tire diameter. I will calculate it the old fashion way when I do my next fill up, hopefully it's still on. We'll see.

Here's the poop on the original issue and why it happened...

As most folks know, I now handle the maintenance for the Evolution. In the processing of adding the Expedition support for the Evo, I had uploaded a test firmware file abut hadn't finished the calibrations yet. Someone at Edge didn't catch why the test version was in Fusion and set it to the default download. This wouldn't have been too big a deal but as I said, it didn't have the compatible calibration.

I talked to Cody about it the other day and he got it all straightened out and the earlier release is set back to default so everything should be working fine again.

There will be a new update by Monday that will have a few firmware changes as well as calibration support for the 2005-2006 Expeditions, like our Gryphons.

I do apologize for the confusion as well as any inconvenience that this error may have caused and again I am glad that Edge got everyone straightened out.

Take care.
