Let's get this straight...

Hey guy's we all know that it's a good idea to purchase a tuner before add in boltons like lt's and cai and such, but if I get a gryphon would i need a costum tune or would I be okay if i just ran a canned tune with the mods? I guess what I'm asking is at what level would I run if I had the above mods? And not harm my engine?

The Gryphon canned tunes and the Edge canned tunes are the same, so the Gryphon should have the same issue with canned tunes and a CAI. If you already have the mods, I would run the Gryphon as a monitor, and use the trucks stock tuning.

You might be able to run everything together and not have any issues, but it seems most people end up running lean.

There is a setting to add more fuel on WOT(wide open throttle). I don't know if it will actually help the situation though. If you noticed you were running lean, I would switch it to the stock setting until you get custom tunes in.

And allenm - I think you have this installation sequence "backwards". If you have a schedule for your purchases, you can put bolt-on's in your truck to your heart's content as long as you are using the stock tune that came with it. So, make the programmer your LAST mod.

You get into trouble when you use a programmer's "canned" tune (that is supposed to optimize a stock engine) with an engine that is not stock. There seems to be enough "slop" in the factory stock tunes though to allow the engine mods (especially ones to the intake) to be made without causing damage.

I wouldn't put an intake on an 04 without a custom tune. Some 04s were lean in stock trim.

I guess that is what i was thinkin that the 04 and up love to be lean so I could run a canned tune form the start and then add more air with the mods?

Run canned tune until you are ready to mod and get custom tune for your intake.
