Edge

Installed my evolution this morning...well tried last night and had a snag, but all is well. I don't ever plan on running a CAI or any engine mods...so I couldn't justify spending the other $100 on a gryphon. (Actually, I used that $100 for weathertech front liners instead). I had a checksum error, but I updated the software and it gave me a new stock tune (I'm guessing). All went good after that.

Looks good! Strange that you had to update right away, did you buy it new?

If you so choose, you can adjust the LED color to match the factory green dash lights in the display settings...just a thought.

I just bought it last night. It had a build date of Sept. 08. I bought the truck used a year ago. I was hesitant to update it because I figured there was no way in hell it would come up with something two months later...but I'm glad I did I think the truck had a tune in it and the Edge must know to get the original stock file online if there is a problem.
I'm still playing with the colors to see what I like best.

I don't know what it did, but it does not change the stock tune. There are good reasons to get Bill's custom tunes other than because of engine mods. I ran the Edge canned tunes for 30,000 miles and said I would never go back to stock. I have had Bill's custom tunes for over 15,000 miles and I would not want to go back to the canned tunes. They are that much better.

I'll have to save up some cash for next spring to have him update it. At least then, I'll have a tune in the meantime. What's going to happen is someone from here is going to convince me to get an intake...then I won't have a choice. Ha-

Yes, on Level 3 with the Edge, I was running 16 1/2 in town and usually 19.2 on the highway(at 75 to 85 mph). That was before I put on the big wheels and tires.

If you have a 2004 or early 2005, there is a possibility that you may be lean at high rpms. It was a problem many had from the factory.

I have heard of that happening. Mine is an 04 and running fine, knock on wood. I have the factory FX4 tires and rims still. I put a 2" leveling kit on it so far, but i want to run 33"s. I need to buy tires for my 63 international scout before i buy tires for my ford.

My Edge has a build date of 12/05/08... A week ago today, and its in the process of updating now!

Anyone have the terms screen pop up with 4 warnings after the first 4 warning?

And lastly, what is the small plug used for?

Cheers

You'll get the "warnings" screen after a firmware/version update. It goes away after you respond to the hit <Enter> request the required number of times. Why does it do this? I don't know.

I don't know what you mean by the "small plug", though. There's a USB port in mine and a rubber plug that covers it when the unit is in the vehicle. There's also the port for the OBD cable in the back of the unit. That's all I have.

The small receptacle on the OBD connector is for an external sensor. I am not sure if it is supported now or will be for future use.

Jack,

My only concern about the warning was after the first 4.... I got 4 more when I was done! I did an update last night and I haven't see it again! So hopefully that helps!

kd4crs,

Thanks for that input! It only caught my interest because the install manual doesn't say anything about it!

Cheers... looking forward to giving this thing a try later today!

The Pod that holds the edge looks black to you? the ring around the monitor is black the housing is a silver that matched the trim around the air vent.
