Programmer's stopwatch accuracy?
Is the general consensus that the stopwatch on the Gryphon and/or Edge should be considered accurate?
as far as 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile timing? |
Not really ...
|
why?
seems like it should keep a fairly accurate reading for 0 to 60 anyway. And doesn't Car and Driver (and others) use a similar type electronic timer for recording their 0to60 and 1/4 figures during roadtests. |
It's a good estimate. It's not completely accurate though. If you want to know 1/4, go to the track.

If you have the Edge/Gryphon setup right I would give it a +/-.5sec. It's not dead on but it's not that far off. I would add the .5 cause I know my truck cant run a 7 sec 0-60.:smoke:

As long as the Tire Size and Gear Ratio are correct, the 0-60 time is pretty accurate. The 1/4 mile stuff can be inaccurate depending on things like wheel-slip and other factors. Because the unit depends on CAN messages from the ECM and the messages can only be requested every so often, the acceleration calculations may be a little off in 1st gear which will effect the final values. It is usually pretty close but I wouldn't bet any pink slips on it. :)

Well I know my tire size and gear ratio were correctly identified in the unit..........and even if I add .5 sec 0 to 60 then I'm dam happy with my 87 performance tune from Bill.....I posted some dandy runs that it wouldn't do before on the canned tunes!

Yeah? What are the #'s? |
Well, consider how accurate the horsepower readings are with the Scan Gauge II, which also reads CAN from the PCM. According to mine, I'm getting 250 or so HP out of a 4.2L V6 w/ a custom tune. For more information, on the Scan Gauge horsepower and PA install, refer to Alex AKA Raptor05121.

1. 6.45sec 2. 6.73sec 3. 6.69sec the best I ever did before with Edge canned tunes was 7.78 and 7.66sec. So whether the new #'s are accurate or not isn't the point but it seems to indicate the truck is performing better with the custom tuning.........that tune was certainly worth the $50 :) |
