Reset EEPROM Manually? (Livewire Update)
Reset EEPROM Manually? (Livewire Update)
Anybody who wants a Livewire should read this.
I ran the unit successfully for 1 month, then did a firmware, and version software update.
Then things went bad.
1. The unit wont read DTC's.
2. The canned tunes wont work at all.
3. My PCM reads the CHT during a Cluster Scan, and also when the key is in, but the truck is off.
4. The result of #3 is that the temperature gauge does not work when the truck is on.
5. Another result of #3, is that the computer will not let the A/C function, and the computer goes into FAILURE MODE EFFECTS MANAGEMENT.
I've replaced the CHT, because that was the recommendation of the dealer. Same problem.
The DTC is P1289, which is a CHT "Open" Circuit, but I see the CHT working doing #3, AND, I can also see the temperature in the monitoring screen of the Livewire.
So physically, I know all of the wires are connected to give the proper inputs.
That leaves it up to replace the PCM, or possibly zap the EEPROM.
The reason I want to try to zap the EEPROM, is that the malfunction happened after I made adjustments to the axle ratio, and Tire revs per mile.
That information is stored in the EEPROM.
Definitely trying to avoid PCM replacement, because that would put my LIVEWIRE adventure well over $1000 mark for a stupid mod.
Just wanted to put this out to the pros for input.
I have all of the factory manuals, and the Powertrain Control Book, which helped in getting these conclusions.

Dear Silver FX4,
Thanks for that Consumer rights tutorial, but quit is not in my vocabulary.
All others that are reading, I found the problem, and I got the tip from www.justanswer.com.
This is a totally awesome sight.
You ask a question about your problem, pledge some money (in my case $15), and a pro will answer your question within 1/2 hour, AND HE DID!
He outlined the various PID's, and probable causes. In my case it was P1289, a short to power. He told me to test the positive lead of the CHT connector. I did, and it was dead. I traced the whip back to another connector to the harness, and found the positive wire had been pulled and broke (from my motor swap 7K miles ago.) The whip was wrapped around the harness (obviously by the mechanic), and he never unwrapped it when installing the new motor, so the connector pulled @ the wire until it broke.
So I stripped both, soldered, and shrink-tubed the connection, reassembled, tested (5.06 volts) and BAM! Temp gauge was working, and so was the A/C.
So it turned out the Livewire DID NOT cause the malfunction, GENUINE FORD SERVICE DID.
I just saved myself hundreds of dollars. Sweet!
