Bully Dog Programmer?

I have Magnaflow duals with a K&N CAI. My installer said a good match for those mods would be a Bully Dog Programmer. Anyone have any exp. with this type of programmer? Other then listed above my truck is pretty much stock as far as performance parts.

The Bully Dog comes with canned tunes. Custom tuning is what you want. Start reading the posts on this forum. I'll bet that your installer is a Bully Dog rep and is just pushing a product that he makes a commission on. No reason for him to send you to a custom tuner since he can't make any money from that.

Hey Thump I checked out the vmp website you told me about and looked at the xcal tuners they offered and those look crazy complicated for me man! I wouldn't even know where to begin with one of those!

They are easy as pie. It's a lot to take in at once but it's the same thing as anything else. All you'll do is plug it in and program the vehicle. Deciding what tunes you want is the hardest part.

From the actual tuning POV, custom tuning. An installer just installs, unless he has some creditability we don't know about: why would you believe him?

It all depends on who is doing the tuning. There is a reason why certain companies are favored for tuning F-150 trucks. VMP Tuning, Troyer Performance, and Power Hungry Performance have a history of writing tunes for these vehicles and have far more experience with these vehicles than most other companies out there that do not specialize in F-150 trucks.

Also ask what that price includes. Is your truck going on the dynamometer? How many tunes will you get for that price? Are you getting a performance tune, mileage tune, towing tune, or a combination of several tunes for different octane fuel?

I wouldn't think it would be going on the dynamometer, but that's a great question to ask. I would more then likely be getting a combination tune for 87 octane to start with.

And I called up VMPTuning.com and they asked for all of my current mods as of the moment and that was the price I recieved? See I didnt know you called them and told them all of your modifications and they custom tune the Xcal V3 right there and then ship it to you ready to go!
