Is The Edge Worth It???
they aren't taking custom tune orders? or they arent selling the units with canned tunes?
It was my understanding that they are shipping the Gryphons with the canned tunes in a couple of days after reciving the order and the custom tunes will need to be ordered later. Do you know something different?

Im not worried about the custom tunes right now. And im not ordering it for probably another month or so. As long as the canned tunes are available then im not too worried right now. So how are these tunes??? Worth the money???
So they are basically the same thing programmer except the Gryphon has custom tunes. Then why does everyone have so many problems witht the edge? And what kind of problems?
Many of the Edge problems are user caused. But, in the past, there have been some problems with the Edge. Those seem to be at a minimum now. The Edge and the Gryphon some with canned tunes that are very similar. They do very well. I was satisfied with mine for a year and a half. Then, I bought custom tunes from Bill and they are even better. Both the Edge and Gryphon come with a monitor that displays up to for gauges at a time. That was very important to me and still is.

Because unlike the Edge, the Gryphon is custom tuned. Think about it, you're trying to create a tune for all of these different vehicle's PCM codes. It's not easy. Custom tuning can be done and can be done much more precise. Custom tuning or nothing IMO ... Like bluejay said, a lot of the problems were caused by people not knowing how to work it but I had quite a few problems, as did others, with the programs just not working correctly.
I suspect that some of Edge's early problems were caused by rushing to market with a product not fully tested, plus trying to be the "universal tuner". Add to that, the fact that Ford kept adding new stratagiesa and you had what seemed to be a lot of problems.

Edge Comment
Common sense says that a custom tune will be better than a general canned tune. I have not tried any custom tuning with Gryphon or anyone else, but I can say that the Edge Evo definitely provides a measurable effeciency & power increase from stock.
I have had the Edge Evo for about six months with no problems and am very satisfied! Also, I get between .7 & 1.1 mpg better depending on where and how I am driving.
My suggestion to you is to get a custom tune if you want to spend the extra money and get a slightly better product. Personally, I am very satisfied with the Edge. Good luck!

Gryphon/XCal2/3
Guys,
I'm new to this site, and I've been reading up on all of your comments on the tuners/programmers. I really have learned quite a bit by simply reading through all of the threads.
I have a 2005 F150 FX4 5.4L w/ airraid intake and 40 series Flowmasters w/ 2.5 dual outlets. I am really wanting to add a programmer/tuner to my truck, for not only MPG's, (currently making 17-18 under 75mph on the hwy) but for the performance as well. I am planning on getting some different wheels/tires (haven't picked them out yet) down the road. If I were to get the CT's on one of the above units, would I want to wait until I have the wheels and tires put on prior to ordering the ct's? Also, how much are the ct's after purchasing the programmer?
Right now I'm leaning toward the Gryphon, but I'd really like more imput from a few of you out there if possible. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Guys!

Advantages/Disadvantages of Gryphon vs XCal2/3
Thanks Tumper! I really appreciate your feedback.
That being said, I really like the idea of having the gauges right up in front of my like the Gryphon/Edge. Does SCT offer a product like this, or is the Gryphon the way to go if I want that type of product? What are the advantages/disadvantages between the Gryphon and the XCal2 or 3?
