Edge Help

Just bought an Edge today. 2007 5.4 Screw. I have about a half a tank of 89 in the truck. I haven't power programmed it yet. Should I use the canned tune, or what would be the best custom settings for me? Anyone have a good setup idea?

I would load the level 2 87 octane tune until you refuel with 91+ octane. You will notice a nice difference with the 87 tune by itself. The shifting will be sooo much firmer and quicker. If you wanted to try to get a tad bit more with the 87 tune go into "custom" and add .5 to the timing table.

You will love the Edge once you load any of the programs especially the level 3......

Hi there,

Stay away from level 3 until you finish that tank of fuel. Running a program written for a higher octane could cause detonation.

Im thinkin of buying that edge as well does anyone know of a website that guides you through what you can and cant change on the custom tune. the last thing i wanna do is mess up my truck by not knowing what im changin, and how big of a power gain do you get by switchin to level 3 is it worth the higher price in gas?

It's a 87 octane towing tune, which also can be used for not towing. Level 3 is a 91 octane performance tune. True custom tunes are a whole different beast. I really suggest sending in your Edge and getting a custom tuned Gryphon from Bill at PHP. It'd be worth it.

Good catch, I forgot about that. We really only have 93 octane here in Florida so it throws me off. I do remember advancing timing for it though.

I believe it's 91 because some places in the country you can't get 93.

Stay away from Exxon/Mobile. Go with a Top Tier such as Shell, Texaco, Conoco or QT. Now when you set it to level 3 with the 93 octane do some custom settings.

Timing: +1
Shift Points: 1-2= 5250 2-3= 5250 3-4= 4800
Shift Pressure: +9 first 2, + 6 on the 3rd
WOT Fuel: +1.5
Max RPMs: 5650
Idle: 700 to 800

Be sure and set it properly for your gears and tires.

Enjoy this for awhile, then kick yourself fo not getting the Gryphon istead of the Edge. The custom tunes are even better!

I'd be kicking my *** for not being able to be patient enough to wait for the Gryphon.

I might still be getting a Gryphon, I just wanted something right now. In the next week or two I should have a CAI and tonneau cover as well, I wanted to be able to monitor what everything was actually doing to the truck. In a month, Ill decide if I keep the edge, or get a gryphon. I dont plan on going to any race tracks any time soon or in the near future. Now if the Gryphon were to post way better numbers in terms of MPGs, I would probably kicking my ***, but waiting for the shipment of the product, then waiting even longer for the custom tune, didnt really fit in with my schedule. I have other mods that I would like to see the effects they have on the truck.
