? about CAI and Edge

After reading about CAI's and the Edge, I wondering if I should wait to hear from Bill at PHP before installing either one. I'm very interested in the Gryphon and wonder if I should hold off on installing the Volant CAI until after I trade the Edge in and get some custome tunes???? Anyone have any suggestions? I know you do!!

Thanks,

Archer

(I just put pics of my new truck my gallery )

Wait for custom tunes. Have you already bought the Volant? If you haven't, I highly suggest not buying it. I suggest buying the S&B CAI. It flows a lot better and it's a closed box design as well. The Volant chokes off after 3,000 RPMs.

Yep, I had it on my 06'. I pulled everything off that I could when I traded it in for the 08'. Is the Volant really causing problems? What is "chokes off"?
I never noticed anything wrong when I had it on the 06'? Then again, I'm kind of a "newbie" to all this.

It doesn't flow very well above 3,000 RPMs. The S&B is a much better closed box design. But like you said, you're a newbie to this so I don't think you'd notice the difference. If you've got it, save your money. Use that extra money for other mods.

I love my S&B but am hoping that my custom tunes will arrive soon from Bill so I can get rid of the "drone" it has caused.

I had the same problem with the Edge and S&B. Custom tuning via a Xcal2 and the problem went away.

I've seen the dyno graphs, don't have any of them saved. It's pretty well known among the tuning community though.

The Edge canned tunes are set up for stock intakes. I would not risk running any CAI with it without Bill's custom tunes.

well the reason i ask is i have one with custom tunes and i dosn't feel like it's choked off after 3,000 rpm's at all at least by the seat of your pants dyno it doesn't i mean from 70 to 100 it pulls hard.

Because the Edge isn't designed to be used with any aftermarket intake, only the factory intake.

I know first hand. I had a Edge with a S&B intake and was running lean.

You can tune a truck with a stock intake.

The Gryphon is the same thing as the Edge and can custom tuned to whatever mods or you can go with a Xcal2 or Xcal3 with custom tuning.
