Bit the bullet, bought a livewire.

I went ahead and ordered a Livewire last week.

My truck is an '05 STX supercab 4x4 4.6l with a Roush CAI, and Roush Offroad Exhaust.

It arrived Friday night.

I opened the box, and saw the package. My first impression was that it is quite large. I took it out to the truck with the window mount, and I am quite happy with how it looks. It could be a bit smaller, and it would be nice if the cord came out of the back of the unit. It comes out the bottom, so I could not mount it as low to the dash as I wanted to, but it does not obstruct my view in anyway, and the display can be read very easily.

Friday night, I loaded up the the canned tune, on 87 octane setting. I noticed the additional power right off the bat. Nice acceleration, and the shift points were awesome. I really like how I can feel it shifts now, and it feels as though I dont loose as much power between shifts. From a dead stop, WOT acceleration, it really takes off now. No lag.

Saturday, I loaded up the 93 octane setting and headed for SC to pick up my new dog. My buddy passed away last week (RIP MAX), and my Aunt had a Vizsla that needed a home. Back to the tune....LOL. Wow, it is amazing how sluggish these trucks really are from the factory. This thing rips now. From a dead stop, passing on the highway. Everything is just so much smoother, and works so much better. I knew it would be better, but I am totally amazed at how much it woke up my 4.6. I put 500 miles on it saturday, and I am hooked. I dont know how I drove this thing before, but I wont ever go back to stock again.

The Livewire itself could use some revamping to the general appearance, and a nice mounting pod would be great. But overall, I am very happy. I needed some gauges, and this does the trick. It is very easy to read the display, and the unit is very user friendly.

There are a lot of things that could be done to make this unit even better, But if I had it to do all over again, I would still order the livewire.

Now, I cant wait for my custom tunes.

Good to hear!

I have no experience with canned tunes, but I think if you're liking those then you're gonna be even more impressed when you get the customs.

Troyer's tunes made my 4.6 Screw a completely different truck. I recently returned it to stock tune for about a week (for a trip to the dealer) and it was, "Oh, HELL NO!".. LOL

Reloaded the 93 perf tune as soon as they gave me back the keys.

I am quite surprised at how much the canned tunes have woken the truck up.

As for power, it is producing a bit more. But it is the shifting that really helps, and makes this thing so much more fun to drive.

I have not had time to play with any of the adjustable features yet. I thought about upping the shift firmness a bit, and seeing how that feels.

One question. Would the Tow setting give me more low end or torque than the performance setting?

I don't think it's advised...

While it will probably put more torque to the ground, it'll also set up other parameters that are CPU controlled (ie: basically everything) to be ready for more weight and more stresses from the weight that would typically be behind your truck.

With it not being there, I think you're probably doing more of a disservice than a benefit.

That, and (if it's like the edge) it will shift like a piece of crap. Mine slamms into gear on the tow tune. I never use it. I don't care how much it benefits the truck or the trans.... It beats ME up!!!

Thanks guys!

What about upping shift firmness +2 on 1-2 and 2-3? I like the firmer shifts, just not sure how much of an impact that would have.

Low end is going to be better with the Towing Tune than a Performance Tune, at least it is with most tunes. It'll also be fine to run it without towing.
