edge or custom tunes
edge or custom tunes
As far as i know the edge and 2 troyer custom tunes cost about the same, but id like to hear from those who have bought either or both about which one would be more worth it. Im really interested in getting a tuner for my truck but im stuck on which would be best for my 05 4.6L

The best thing with both cost and results in mind would be to find a reputable tuner in your area that can custom tune your truck on a dyno while watching real time data on your truck. You will get the most out of your tune, spend about the same and know 100% what you paid for. You will see base line hp/tq numbers and see the final results, you will see your a/f ratio and know that the tune did not just lean you out a bit and firm up the shifts to give you the "feeling" of more power.
No matter how good a tuner is or how big of a database they collect they will never hit the nail on the head without putting it on a dyno and seeing the results of their inputs in real time. We are not dealing with high end motors that were built by hand with tolerances held so tight that the variance from one motor to the next might be +/- .025hp. Mass produced motors will always have manufacturing differences that can only be detected on the dyno, the only way to make a "generic" tune that will also work on the lowest common denominator would be to supply a tune that leaves something on the table. I am sorry but for the money you shell out getting a tune, leaving something on the table is not something I would want to do.
I just noticed you are in Houston, there are probably 20 reputable tuners with in house dynos in your area. No way I would mail order.

When I had my F-150, I bought the Edge and I had too many problems to put up with it. I ended up buying a Xcal2 from www.VMPTuning.com and a dyno tune. It was a night and day difference, more power, WAY better driveability, better mileage, etc. It was just so much better in every which way possible.
