Fusion -> Lightning?
Fusion -> Lightning?
I bought an Edge yesterday. When I installed the Lightning software for the updates it upgraded the software automatically to a new software called Fusion.
Fusion works fine but there is no option to upload a custom screen to the Edge.
So, if I took a different computer and made sure it wasn't connected to the Internet and installed the Lightning software, and then used that to just upload a custom screen, would I be okay?

I figured it was worth a shot so I took a different computer that was not connected to the Internet and installed the Lightning software. It complained a bit about the lack of connectivity but it ran and let me upload my custom screen. I didn't try to download any data stream info, but I think it will allow that too. The new Fusion software doesn't do either.
Here is a simple Ford screen I made:

You did good.
I seem to recall that Bill said in one of posts that Fusion would be updated at a later time to allow you to create custom screens. Fusion itself was a recent change to correct a lot of connectivity issues people were having. I see it as a "work in progress".

I've added a collection of Splash Screens available for download on the website. Check out...

You'll also be able to download the last version of Lightning as well as Fusion form there.
Enjoy 'em!

other then the connectivity issue, did it update anything else that lightning software currently had?
No. In fact, Fusion is a stripped down version of Lightning. While it is a more powerful update platform, it no longer has the Datastream viewer, HP calculator, Tire Size calculator, or Splash upload functions anymore. It's sad, really, because we put a lot of time into those utilities to make it cool and useful. Ah well...

Well doesnt looks like i am going to be updating anytime soon.
I do believe that Fusion is Vista capable. I am not sure about Lightning though. I do think that if you installed Fusion and then installed Lightning behind it, everything should work because the USB driver intall will be run during the Fusion install. When (re)installing Lightning, skip the USB Driver install as it will clobber the Vista capable drivers.
Hope this helps.

As I said, Fusion and Lightning can coexist just fine. I have it on my computer with no problems. Just reinstall Lightning after installing Fusion and you get to keep all the goodies.
One thing I will do is take a look at the USB Driver install and see if I can set it up as a stand-alone download so you won't have to do the fusion install. I'll let you know if it works.
Take care.

Just rec'd this from Edge
Dear Customer,
We are currently transitioning over to a new program, called Fusion that allows customers the ability to easily update their programmers. This program is Vista compatible and makes the update process very easy, but there are still a couple of our programmers that use the Lightning software. I would love to assist you in finding out if your device can use Fusion or finding a way to update your device. If you would like we could set up a RMA where you could send it to us and we would apply the latest updates for you. I have included my contact information into this email so that you can reach me and get assistance. Let me know how I can help.
Sincerely,
Mark Hayward
