Engine ping with the Edge

Iv had my edge for about a month now, running it on level two and I have noticed lots of engine ping. The only settings I have changed through the Edge are tire size and gear ratio. Any ideas on what might be causing the engine ping and/or how I can eliminate this via changing the timing.

Thanks

I did upgrade to 93 octane gas so I will see how it is. I did still notice a slight ping, but it went away after a while. Beside the fact, how would I adjust the timing to reduce the chance of pingin?

I wouldn't change the timing just yet. Return to stock or try a different brand of gas, you should not have to buy 93 octang or adjust timing just because of the Edge. If you must change timing its in the user manual and the custom settings, but something else is going on. My 05 4.6 has been running the Edge for 28,000m and only 1 time did it ping on level 2.

Be sure you have at least about 85 percent 93 in the tank, not half 87 and half 93. And take it easy when you first try it. The pinging is telling you there is BAD things going on. I bet it is sorry gas in your area causing the predetonation. Go with Shell, Texaco, Chevron Conoco or Phillips if possible.

I only use Shell 93 or Sunoco 91. Tried those cheap gas stations and the gas was horrible. Stick with the names brands and you should be fine.

I was running on empty when I filled up with 93 but I should prob run a full tank because Im guessing the 87 previosly in the tank blended with the 93

I bet it's the gas. I have had some bad spark knock lately also with my truck. I only run sunoco or shell gasoline. I think it could have something to do with the winter fuel??
Try disconnecting both battery terminals for 15-30 minutes and maybe it will adjust correctly after that.
I run custom tunes and i am gonna try running my 87 performance tune using 89 octane gas and re-boot the computer. I hope it solves the friggin spark knock

I hate to say it but they are original with 90,000 miles
Actually now that you mention it most likely could be the problem. I know i should have replaced them by now but they are kinda $$$ and my truck always ran great. It happens for a split second if i give it over 1/4 throttle from a dead stop or if i try to give it a little more gas while cruising. I can hold it WOT in second gear all the way till it shifts to third and it will not make a noise.
Do you think new front 02's will fix it Phil?
Thanks for the help

i myself would change them-remember in closed loop the o2's adjust for the fuel, not the pcm- changed mine solved the issue- at that was with 28k miles-i bet they are getting buildup on the tips and are probably getting lazy-phil

too much timing for the fuel... get some torco, or pull a little timing.
