Superchip already done?

Is there a way to tell if a vehicle already has a Superchip installed or programmed? Reason I ask, I just picked up a 2000 150 with the 5.4. I expected it to have some power, but nothing like it does. If this thing is still bone stock, then I can not wait to add some more power to it! It does have a K&N filter, but not the CAI.

Or, is this just the way these things run? For example, if I nail it from a dead stop, it will flat out roast the tires (both). If I 'roll' into the throttle, then nail it at about 10 mph, it will still get loose and I will be trailed by two black marks until the truck shifts into 2nd.

Not complaining mind you LOL, thrilled as can be! But I do plan on towing with this and I understand certain "modes" on the Superchip are not towing friendly.

Gotta say, quite pleased with my first 150!

I can't tell you about the 2000 but I have had an 04 and an 07 and neither could roast the tires without a tuner.

What did you drive before this truck?
I had a 98' w/4.6 and 3:55 rear gear and thought it ran ok after that I bought a 03' w/5.4 and WOW what a difference. The difference is a combo of 2 things in the 03', naturally the 5.4 and the bigger improvement is the 3:73 rear gear.
I have a Superchips and a way to tell on mine that I notice the most is that when under load [WOT] the torque converter use to change at 40mph and now changes at 45 to 55 depending on the grade.

Before we 'acquired' this truck I had a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8. Wife drives a 2007 HHR and I mostly drive my 2004 Ranger Edge (Company Truck). Yes, I know, my lawn mower has more power than the Ranger Edge.

Anyway, the 150 has 3.55 gears and brand new tires.

I'm no stranger to power, I also 'share' with my Dad a 1972 Buick GS 455. Here is a photo of our toy.

Anyway, none the less I am very happy with the 150 and can not wait to order a CAI and Superchip. Either way, even if its already been tuned I will need to be able to change it to tow mode to pull the camper.

Thanks! seems to be a good group of folks here.

Regular cab short box? Long box? Supercab Short box? 4X4, 4X2? What configuration do you have?

While it is not the lightest truck with the smaller tires 235s it can sit and roast them all day. Even the 255 are easy to spin. A lot depends on what brand of tire you have too.

It has 245 75r 16s for tires.

Thanks for the info, that's pretty much what I was after. I am even more excited now to get an CAI and tuner.

if you look under the dash on the pass side there should be a silver box(PCM or ECM not shure what one it is) if you have a superchip installed you will see it pluged in to the side of the box..my chip is blue and I could see it right away. I have a S/C and a hand full of other bolt ons and I can only spin in water good luck

...I was told once the difference between a man and a boy is whos paying for tires ..LOL

Thanks, I will take a peek under the dash. I will also take a video here soon and post it. Have to find a nice quite place where I will not get a ticket LOL.

Disregard the timestamp, put new batteries in the other day and did not set the date.
