Tuning for engine mods

Hello.

I am looking to add a set of Crane Cams Z-cams Stage II camshafts to my truck (2006 5.4L), as well as the corresponding valve-train upgrades and bolt-on airflow enhancements. I am pretty well set on the S&B intake system and dynatech SuperMAXX longtube headers (with-cats), but not really sure which exhaust sytem will be installed after the headers. My question is with regards to tuning the factory ECU to function properly around the new setup. I know that there are a lot of flash tuners out there that allow for custom tuning, but do they adjust enough parameters to compensate for new camshafts, and longtube headers? What is a good tuning solution for my needs?

Here are things that would be nice to find:

-Ability to tune for my setup (i.e. Cams, headers, etc...)
-Tire-size correction (have 35" tires at the moment)
-Gear ratio correction (4.56 will be replacing 3.55 soon)
-Transmission shift point modification
-Increased rev-limiter (to go with the larger cams and valve-train)
-Ability to display engine vitals in real time (a/f ratio, RPM,etc...)
-Ability to store the factory tune

With all of that out of the way, what else is there? If I left anything out that is important, please let me know and I will update the thread.

Custom tune from a distributor. Or tune yourself with SCT Advantage; but the learning curve is long and you can **** stuff up.

You dont need a tune to run long tubes, as for the cams from what I hear they are not worth the money..... call up Mike at Troyer Performance if you want some great info.

Based on your mod plan, you do know that you will not pass smog at registration time.

just FYI, longtube headers, highflow cats, and the S&B intake are ALL illegal in California.

They are not carb legal, so by default the truck would fail its visual inspection (regardless of its tailpipe emissions). I already knew about this, (though I appreciate the concern by the members here) and will be working with that when the time comes.

It looks as though the SCT Livewire has the options that I am looking for, and there are a number of places that can custom tune for these parts. Other than the smog legality of the setup, what changes/improvements would you make to it if it were your truck? The intake is up in the air (no pun intended) now that I have done some more reading about the AirForce 1 intakes, and the cams are subject to change as I continue to search for just the right profile. As far as headers are concerned, there seem to be very few options in the way of a long-tube design; and Dynatech has never let me or any of my friends down in the past. The cat-back portion of the exhaust is subject to a lot more research, but will likely end up with Magnaflow components installed.

Thoughts, concerns, comments and geberal discussion:

Not a problem, I have been in CA my whole life and into cars for just as long. I am new to the forum, but so far the members here seem more eager to look out for one another than on some of the other automotive forums that I frequent. So far, I have yet to be flamed and called a n00b (even though I have thousdands of quality and worth while posts spread out over other forums, and am a global moderartor on a forum) on here. I must say, this site seems a bit more mateur than the others.

Thanks again guys for all of the insight, and for looking out for me.

So as a result of time, experience and contacts, the smog situation is not a big deal

if you are worried about smog legality at all, the K&N FIPK air intake system is CARB certified.
