Hypertech Max Energy Performer

I'm thinking of getting one of these for myself for Christmas (along with some other toys.)

Click me!

Anybody have one? How do you like it?

It'll be on my 4.2L so I'm not expecting their claimed 57hp. What do you think I could expect? 10rwhp would be awesome in my mind. I've got a high-flow muffler right now, and I'll be doing true duals and intake probably shortly.

Also, I see that it allows for tire-size changes - what about gears?

Anyone know where I can get a good deal on this?

Thanks for any info.

Tony

Tony,

The gain of 57 hp for a gas truck was the 03-06 GM trucks with the 8.1 V8 Vortec. A lot of the time when a company like stylin concepts makes a non vehicle specific ad they will give a range of performance that can be gained.
I copied this from the link you posted "up to 176 hp over stock for diesel trucks & 57 hp over stock for gas trucks", you see proceeded power claims with "up to". That is why Hypertech recommends that customers to visit our website to view vehicle specific dyno graphs before making a purchase.
Now as for your truck with the 4.2L you will see gains of 10HP & 22TQ using premium fuel and gains of 8HP & 19TQ using regular
Tuning Features
Contains Two Performance Tunes for either Regular or Premium Fuel
Reads, Displays, and Clears Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's)
Speedometer and Odometer Correction for Tire Sizes for 24"-54"
Adjustable Top Speed Limiter to Match Speed Rated Tires
Adjustable Transmission Shift Firmness
Adjustable Engine RPM Rev Limiter
Speedometer and Odometer Correction for Rear Axle Gear Ratios 2.73:1-4.56:1

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Those numbers look pretty good to me on a V6. I'm not expecting much - I mainly want the ability to calibrate my speedo, as I may change tires a few times a year depending on my mood.

Where do you recommend picking one of these up? Can you think of a better product for my needs?

They are and the TQ will really help get the truck moving. If I was looking to buy a Max Energy I'd do a google search, that is if you're looking to buy online. If you want to buy local you can check out the dealer locater on Hypertech.com

Darnell,

I've been reading posts throughout the board, and have seen a lot of people mentioning A/F problems with tuners in addition to CAI and/or Exhaust.

I have custom exhaust on my truck, and a CAI on the way. Will the Hypertech have issues with these?

Thanks

Yes, Hypertech tunes both part throttle and wide open throttle. Now we don’t necessarily see significant power gains or even fuel economy increases at every RPM and throttle position though. In fact, our testing has shown us that for gas engines there isn’t a lot of improvement to be made at part throttle; steady cruise driving. The reason behind this is that under part throttle cruising conditions the engine’s air fuel ratio is typically regulated by feedback from the oxygen sensors and is stoichiometric which provides the most efficient burn of the fuel injected into the engine.
So while we always tune part throttle, typically there isn’t much improvement to be made over the OEMs tuning calibration in regards to part throttle, steady cruise drive conditions. That being said we have been able to make some improvements over the OEM tuning calibration when optimizing specific tuning calibrations for regular and premium fuel instead of the one generic tune for both that OEMs develop.

LOL

Darnell:

You don't even sound like you know what you are talking about. Have you ever heard of spark advance, do you understand the concept of the knock sensors and sensitivity? Running stoich you can make some decent gains in power at PT. Just with the ETC tables at PT you can 'feel' more power. LOL one generic tune, the F150 has so many cal files its ridiculous. So go run back to your calibration guys and bug them because you sound like a sales guy.
