I think it is all what the individual wants out of a programmer. The things that caused me to go for the Edge a year and a half ago are still the same.

I hate waiting on something I have decided on and 6 to 8 weeks is not doable for me, I want it "now". My Edge was delivered in 2 days.

The gauges are very important to me. I use them constantly.

I have no desire to give all the feedback necessary to do a custom program nor am I interested in a dyno.

If I wanted to move the Edge to another truck, would be easy and quick.

The Edge makes my truck run very well adding maybe 25 HP and the few HP the Xcal2 or 3 just does not mean anything to me.

I see them as two totally different products that do some of the same things but appeal to different markets.

I have 30,000 miles on my truck with the Edge and if my Edge quit on me, I would buy another one as quickly as possible.

I run the Edge and a CAI K&N and no lean issues. Runs great! I also have my edge Custum Tune for a added bonus!!

I would LOVE to try a Xcal. However Im really impressed with my Edge and CAI combo!! Having it custom tuned I can tell a differance on the way it shifts from the stock edge. Regardless I still like the edge but feels safer now shifting to me anyways and still has the power!!

bluejay432000 makes som very good points about the edge also.

I picked mine up in the Forsale here in the forums for $250.00. All I had to do was plug it in and go!!! Ran great before the CAI and even better after the CAI.

I really think if BIll starts custom tuning the edges again I "HIGHLY" recommand anyone having a edge try it. Dont expect to get a turbo boost.
I did get a smoother shifting with great power and even more response time taking off. To me its the same power but seems much smoother on shifting and less tear on the truck. Again this is just my option because I like pushing the pedal down on my truck!

In all honesty I love my edge and highly recommand it. I have seen many issues about people having problems with theres. Bill has really seemed to help out when he can with these issues. Hes a great guy and hope everything is ok with his son and comes back soon.

Anyone looking for an Edge I suggest you check out the Forsale forums here and should be able to pick one up for around $300.00. I would also before buying call the person make sure they have good feedback and no problems with the product.

Very well said by another Edge owner. I totally understand your points, but the question was is the Edge worth it. IMO it's definitely not when you can get custom tuning for the same cost.

See, we are two different markets. It's not worth it to you, but it is to me for the reasons I stated. I place value on those things, you apparently don't place the same value on them.

In fact, I would pay more for an Edge than the Xcal2 or3. It offers more of what I want.

The OP didn't ask about custom tunes, he asked about the edge and if it's worth getting or not.

I'm sorry to inform you, wsxcpo, mr. custom tune owner, but the edge is worth it.

Don't get me wrong guys and don't take anything personal here. The OP asked if the Edge was worth it, I don't think it is and I stated my reason why. It would be worth it if it were still $100 less, but when it cost the same as custom tuning it isn't. Just my opinion that's all.

Sure, I understand, to you it's not worth it, to me it is. That's the nice thing about choices and options. I will say that had the Edge not existed, I'm sure I would have gone with an Xcal2 and been happy with it. A tuner is absolutlely necessary for me to enjoy my truck.

You don't even have one, how can you say anything whatsoever about it's worth?

You're right I don't have one. Why don't I have one? Because at the time I went to decide which tuner I wanted the Edge had increased the cost to the same amount as an Xcal II with custom tuning. So as I have been saying to me the Edge at the same cost is not worth it. I have never said anything negative about the Edge so quit thinking I'm saying your Edge is junk while my custom tuning is way better.

I don't have a tuner - I was going by what I read here and elsewhere . If I was the OP, I would like to be informed of all the options out there - including CUSTOM tuning.

I wouldn't purchase and edge because of what I've heard and theres so many used ones out there for sale..

I do like the way they look though and it's nice to know that some people have had good luck with them.

Merry Christmas :santa:

Never had a problem with my edge. Most edge problems are user error ie they can't/don't read the manual. Hardly an edge problem. Honestly, I'd take it over custom tuning. I can do far more with my edge, but that's another thread.

Okay well i've had both, and ill give you my say:

When i first got the Edge, i had mixed emotions. I had a STOCK truck outside of a flowmaster exhaust, which does nothing power/powerloss wise or running lean etc.

Power was great, loved it. Gauges were awesome, helped out a lot.

However, there was the issue of shifting. i tried just about every combo of firmness/timing and the shifts were just never crisp or timely. I dont know why. Also, there was the shudder and transmission droning that just drove me crazy on the highway or when climbing.

I then added a CAI, and it droned like CRAZY with the Edge, obviously because my A/F ratios were off. So, i switched to custom tuning.

The shifting problem was fixed, shifts are all perfectly timed, perfectly firm, love it. No shudder, no drone, etc.

Power is EVERYWHERE across the RPM band, whereas the Edge had spots where it would have excellent power and spots where it just wouldnt pull at all, specifically down low.

To the OP: Like someone said earlier, they are for two different markets. If you have a stock truck, and really badly want gauges or plan to use it on multiple trucks, then the Edge is worth it. If you have any engine mods, and dont need the gauges, Xcal2 custom tuning is really the way to go.

one reson there are used Edges for sale is because they can be used on other trucks witout reprogramming. If you buy a used Xcal2, you have to pay for new tuning, so you might as well by a new unit. This makes used ones worth very little.
