New to this stuff.

Hey all. I have a few questions about this tuner deal. After reading a number of posts I am very interested in purchasing a tuner but not sure if its right for me. I own a 1997 F-150 SC/SB 4x4 with a 4.6L Windsor V8. I don't have any mods except for an exhaust system. Its a custom made system with a 2.5" dual right from my manifolds and I have the cats/resinators cut out, dual in dual out 70 series flomaster with stainless magnaflow tips (awesome job done by Shooks extreme performance in Chetwynd, BC Canada). ANyway I wanted some easy power adders that are relatively cheap and started looking at this stuff. I am looking for something I can just plug in and go but I want to be able to switch between towing, race, and ecomony modes. I don't want to sacrifice durability at all and I don't want to have to modify anything if I don't have to with the engine. The engine is a new rebuild from Ford with only 50k on it. It actually blew up on me but since I have rebuilt it myself and put in Federal Mogul pistons in it. Anyway is there a system out there for me and my truck?

You have really two ways to go. If you want it tomarrow and cant wait i would recomend the edge evo. ITs got nice guages (that will monitor a ton of stuff on your truck) and three levels of tuning as well as you can tweak the tuning a bit to get a hai r more out of it.

Your best choice, however, is the Xcal2 from troyer performance. I wish i had gone that route myself. You lose the nice guages, but youll get a better tune. Mike works almost stricktly with f150s and has for years. His tunes are as good as it gets. Im sure he'll something here soon.

The reason i wish i had gone with mike is becasue the edge will only work for so long. If you plan on ever doing anything drastic with your engine then your edge will no longer work. Mike can send you a new program to run your new setup.

The one down side to this is you have to wait about 8 weeks to get your tunes.

thats my MHO. If you got the time, i would recomend that you get mikes tuning. I dont have it like i said but everyone that does says it well worth that wait.

Good Luck To you in what your choice may be.

I have the edge and i can get about 3mpg's more if i watch what im doing and run the level two modified. Hope this helps. I get about the smae cost per mile runnning 91 octane fuel and tuned that i did stock. So im ny opinion if i can pay the same per mile and still have more power. You have to be crazy not too.

Troyer now takes about, oh, 10 weeks to get you your tunes. Too long to me. Plus I like the ability to fiddle with my stuff, so I went with the Edge Evo on my F-150. Sold it with my F-150, and now I've got the Edge on my F-250.
