Sold Xcal2

I just received my Paypal payment for my Xcal2 unit. I got $190 for it... I've just gotten very tired of all the sacrafices that come with tuners. I originally started with the Superchips 1745, then moved to the Edge. Sold both of them to get the Xcal2. Started with tunes from Troyer; wasn't satisfied with daily driving behavior of tranny shifts. Then got some tunes from Bamachips and VMP tuning. Both were much better, with VMP having a slight edge against Bama...

But even so, I'm now on a rampage to get everything performance-related back to stock. I cut off my Gibson catback, re-installed factory air filter, and now got rid of my tuner... Downside is that the extra grunt is gone. Upsides are nice smooth shifts, daily driver-friendly shift points, quiet luxury-like cab, overall much nicer ride. Right now I couldn't be happier!

Wow.

And what was the point of all this?

Are you saying we should just stick with the stock performance that Ford offers?

I think you must have wasted a lot of money for some experiment. No offense meant at all, but why the hell did you bother with all those mods if you just really liked the truck the way Ford sent it to you?

I've seen posts like this before and it just piques my curiousity. Why?

What is the point?

Glad you llike it as it was meant to be.

I just got my edge and using it for canned level 2 and to adjust new tire size. I like my exhaust sound as well. Just got a remote oil filter to put on and trans cooler and I am done as well.

What remote oil filter did you get? Any pics of it installed?

Sorry if my "waste" of money upset you. My point was that I got all caught up in the hype of tuners... And IMO they aren't all that they're cracked up to be. At least not for ME. No doubt they have some great benefits. At the time, I thought that's what I wanted. But I just decided that I'm done with that phase of my truck ownership. No different than people that raise, then lower; switch tires/wheels often; get tonneau then remove tonneau... Just like when Porterfield first came out with pads for the 2004+ F150's. Of course I jumped on the bandwagon. Sure enough, I discovered they too weren't all that great.

I just need to start really thinking about things before I go all-out jumping on the bandwagons.

I got the Trans-Dapt 1127 Oil Filter Relocation Kit ordered and should be here Monday. Along with ground force shackles (2") for the rear. I wanted to raise the front but dont want to mess with the steering/suspension geometry. Rear end would be easier to do and since I have a 2x4, its not a big deal to raise mine.

I tow a 7300 lbs travel trailer. To be honest, towing was one are where I didn't really notice a difference. I think when you're pulling that much weight, 25-30 extra HP doesn't make a whole lot of difference. The most noticable difference with the tunes was when the truck was UNLOADED.

Would pulling something lke that be a good canidate for the 4.10 gearing?

Did the Troyer or Evo have any effect in a tow tune? I have yet to hook up the horse bus on my truck with the Evo.

4.10 or 4.56 with 35" would pull excellent but I don't have at least $1000.00 or more for new gears, and truck still under warranty. I thought about buying4.56 for simple reason of running 35"s. Well the reason I bought the xcal2 because when I first purchased my camper my truck wouldn't pull the camper. 40mph on highway is not good. I took it to the dealer and said there nothing wrong with truck. Bought the xcal2 and had it dynoed and Mike from troyer discovered a power issue. Then I took it to another dealer they found a bad IMRC valve.

Hey Dennis. I thought about buying a back-up camera for hooking up my camper. Does it work OK.

It works good enough for my usage. I mean how much do you really need to spend on a BU cam? I dont have a video head unit so that was a nice alternative and it works good, not great but works good for what I need it for. The night time isn't the cat's meow but can't recall when I ever hooked up at night.

Maybe some of those early fishermen would, but I would have the rig waiting to go the night before so I could sleep as long as I could
