Superchips MAX micro

There's a guy selling a Superchips MAX micro tuner for my truck in the local bargain/auto trader for a hundred bucks. Thats a very cheap price, assuming that it works like it's supposed to. But i read on the site that you have to run 91 or 93 rated octane. Anyone have this on their F150 around a 2000 model? I'm looking to get a little more power and hopefully a mile or two more to the gallon. But i don't think its worth paying for 91 or 93 octane when regular gasoline around here is going for $3.05 a gallon and 3.25 for premium. What do ya'll think?

Yes, you can. This is the tune I have installed currently.
Take a look at this link, it may explain some of your questions.
Download the install instructions.

What kind of gains do you get with the 87 octane tune? Any more power or gas mileage? It says if the tuner was used before it may be VIN Locked and will not tune another vehicle. I'm buying it used so i'm assuming the guy used it to tune his F150. So looks to me it won't even work for my truck?

Mileage? No noticeable gain thus far, I am unable to keep my foot out of it.
Gains? Seems the most noticable gain was the transmission programming, engine did get a bit of a tweak, but not really noticable. You would have to ask the individual if he returned his truck to stock. It is supposed to unlock the programmer, when vehicle is returned to stock tune.

Depends on revision. Have the seller tell you the date on the label on top of the unit. The new one is Sept 03 or later. If it is the old one it will have a single 91 octane program. If it is the new one you will get 3 programs. Do not buy a used tuner unless the seller has verified that he has returned his vehicle to stock and the unit is no longer VIN locked.

Has anybody heard of the Superchips Max Micro Tuner causing transmissions problems or anything like that? I had a few people tell me they blew out their transmissions using Superchips. I just bought an 2004 F-150 that has this Tuner installed and now I am a little weary.

Not that I am aware of. I have been using mine since Sept 03 with no problems.

So do you think it would be a problem running Superchips for all settings? That's how it was setup when i bought it, but since i heard there could be problems, I returned all settings to Stock. What do you think?
