Chip?

Hey guys I'm new to the forums. I was deciding whether to get a performance chip or not. My dillema is that from what I have been hearing the only way to increase your horsepower with these chips is to use premium fuel. With gas being so expensive the days I was wondering if there was a chip that increased horsepower with only using unleaded gas. I know some tuners have an unleaded option but is it worth getting? Thanks for the help.

Hi.

With proper custom tuning, you can acheive great results on 87 octane; just not as much as you would on 93 octane, of course.

Here's just one example of what can be done:

If you are worried about gas prices, u shouldn't of gotten a truck. Now don't take that as a dig, but think about it. If you go bone dry and have to fill up all 30 gallons, the difference between 93 octane and 87 octane is roughly $6.00. I said it before and I'll say it again, I'll give up my starbucks for the day to pay so that I can get my 93 octane. Again don't take this as a dig, but it's only $6

x2 what Ski said.. it's only a matter of a few bucks per TANK..

You should look into a Corolla or Accord if you can't afford to fill a 30 gal. tank.

All that being said, I think it's a lot more fun to make a nearly 3 ton truck step up off the line.

My truck is my commuter vehicle and I still put 93 octane in it.

Chip the truck regardless of 87 or 93 octane

I'm running mine on 87 right now and even at that the performance difference is noticeable. So even if you only run 87 octane because of the $$ at the pump you can still get some benefit from the tune. 93 is the way to go and like they said the $$ difference isn't much. So buy a tuner use good gas and have fun.

I only have had my edge for about 3 weks now(3 tanks of gas). But i am running hte 92 octane and my performance tune and i am getting about 2.5 MPG's better than i was before. BUt thats with me staying off the pedal That right there balances out the fact its $6 more for a tank. Same cost per mile and i have a few more ponys.

That sounds great. 2.5 extra mpg's would be nice. Ive been looking around the forums and I'm thinking the xcalII looks like a good way to go. The custom tunes look awesome
