Link to good info
Hey all-
I am new to the world of custom tuning and air intake systems. From what I've read, Troyer seems to be the place to get custom tunes. I also was told to go with an airraid or af1 intake. How would I go about getting and XCalII tuned by troyer if I bought it used? Would I get it faster if I bought and Xcal or the Limewire from him? I'm going to Iraq in November and would like to enjoy my rig before I go. I guess the main thing I need to do now, is read about tuning and different options. I have read tons of threads in this forum, but there aren't too many for true engine n00bs.
Can anybody hook me up to a link with some good info? Thanks fellas.
Mike

Hi Foxacrombie,
The best thing to do to get accurate information is to just give us a call at our number listed below and we'll be happy to go over everything in proper detail with you & answer any questions you may have.
By the way - usually you will not save any significant money (and may actually spend more) by buying an XCal 2 used, as you still have to pay us to do the actual tunes - now you certainly *can* go that route, and if you do then you would simply call us and place an order for your tunes, and once they are done we email them to you. But by the time you buy a tuner used and then pay us for the tuning, chances are you could have had a brand new unit with a full warranty and tech support for the same or less cost, something you do not get when buying it used - I don't mean to put you off of going that route, it's just info you need to consider. Also, the newer XCalibrator 2's have a backlit screen, more memory on board, etc.
We cannot quote any pricing here, so for that info, you'll need to call us, & thanks for your understanding on that.
With regards to which intake kit to go with, I recommend the 3.5" version of the Air Force One, as that is what gains the most power - now it does require custom tuning to keep the A/F ratios in line, and of course we handle that as well in our tuning, no problem. You could go with the smaller 3.0" version of the Air Force One and it can be run on the factory tune, but you will gain significantly more power by using the 3.5" version, so that is what I recommend and what most of our customers go with, just to let you know. I prefer the Air Force One to the Airaid, as not only does it gain more power, but I think (and this is personal preference) it also looks better under the hood.
Here on the Internet, there is all kinds of information - about 90% of it well intentioned but wrong in some way when we're talking about the Internet overall, and then about 10% of it is pure gold - the problem is, how to know what is accurate and what is not? That is why we recommend giving us a call to go over this info, as there really isn't just "a link" that is going to teach you about this - and in all candor, the smart choice is to work with someone who knows what they are doing, which is why most F-150 owners come to us as we have specialized in F-150 performance for so many years, and we are very well known for our results, knowledge & service.
I hope this brief info helps you a bit without coming off as a pure sales pitch (
), & please do feel free to call us at our number listed below as we'll be more than happy to help you get the info you need to get the most out of your vehicle for the least cost.
Thanks for your post, & we hope to hear from you!
