Edge Doesn't turn on....

I have had myedge now for four days and 60% of the time it doesn't come on with the vehicle. I have to reach down and unplug it and plug it back in. Is this common. Also i havn't been able to download the lightning program from teh webstie. does any one know where else i can get that.

Can i do anything to help it turn on?

The Lightning software SHOULD have been packaged with your unit. Check the plug on the rear of the unit;is the connector latch engaged ? Does the HEX code of your PCM match the SUPPORTED units ? I had no problems downloading the software from the Edge web site ?
ENSURE you connect the OBDII connector with the KEY ON!
Good luck

The lightning program was not included in the shipment i got. I read through the manual and it says to call the edge support but nobody seems to get a hold of them. I figured i would try here first.

go to the edge website and download from there, its on the left, just click edge revolution. and do what it says. very easy. I was shiped the cd but it was bad, so they told me to download from site and it worked.

Here is a direct link to the Lightning software download: http://www.edgeproducts.com/updates/LightningSetup.exe

I just tested the link a few moments ago, and it worked fine for me. If it doesn't work for you, you may have a firewall blocking your access or possibly the Edge server has gone down.

Regarding your issue with the unit failing to power up with the vehicle: it sounds as if you have one of the following causes:
(1) a loose connection at the diagnostic port, a bad cable/bent pin, or a problem with the port itself.
(2) a loose connection at the back of the Evolution
(3) a faulty Evolution

A few questions might help pinpoint the cause. Does the unit turn itself off occasionally when you're driving? Or, once powered, does it remain powered until you shut the truck off? If it shuts itself off when driving, I'd lean toward #1, in which case you'll have to determine whether the cable is faulty or your port is bad. #2 seems unlikely given your description of how you reset the device. If you can eliminate the cable and the port as a cause, then you probably have a bad device. You'll have to contact Edge for an RMA and exchange.

Good luck!

Some times it just freezes up and so that leads me to lean towards a bad unit. I know everythign is snug and all good cause i have double checked it all out. When ever i run the 0-60 times or 1/4 mile i bet half of the time it just freezes.

I agree--it sounds as if you've got a bad device. Give Edge a call after the holiday. They'll do some troubleshooting with you over the phone (be sure to call on a cordless phone and try to have access to both your truck and a computer). If the problem can't be fixed, they'll send a new Evolution to you with a prepaid shipping label to return your faulty device. In the meantime, I would avoid making any changes to your PCM using the Evolution, although continuing to use the gauges shouldn't be a problem.

So should i return it back to stock or do you think it will be fine to run the level im on and keep it there?

Ftruck05 May 26, 2007 11:09 AM

Ive had some issues with my Evo but never a serious issue. IMO if the edge works and it programmed your truck youre good to go. My Hex was not even supported when i recieved mine and i never had a "brick" truck issue. As far as losing power and freezing up, mine does that weekly. The connection in the back of the evo is not the best and it doesnt take much to wiggle loose. The freezing issue im not so sure about but i found if you go into the menu and back to the gauges it unfreezes. Youre the one that bought it if you are not happy with it or think it may be defective call edge and they might replace it for you.

As long as the truck is running OK, it will be fine to keep the truck programmed for now. I do *not* recommend returning the vehicle to stock. The Edge doesn't change anything in the PCM unless you reprogram it. Since the device may be faulty, you don't want to introduce the possibility of it powering off while programming and creating a problem in the PCM.

Once Edge reopens after the holidays, give them a call. They will likely want to return your vehicle to stock at some point, especially if the device needs to be returned. If something happens when returning the vehicle to stock, they can guide you through a process which allows you to write your stock program back into your truck.

Yeah i think that i will call them on monday. I am totally impressed by the edge and the gains i got. I knew that i wouldn't be able to change the speed and gear ratios. But i was a little unimpressed that i couldn't change the limiter. I just think for $450 that you would think that it wouldn't freeze and such.

i have a 98 f150 5.4l and the same edge evolution even though you cant change the speed limiter it does it for you mine now goes well beyond what the speedo says and for anyone else that has an EVO tuner and cuts out try this
hold down the menu button after it shuts off and see if it comes back on that fixed mine

So even though you have the analog odometer nad you cange change teh speed limiter in the evo. It still lets you go past the limiter?

SO i fially got a hold of edge and they told me that the unit not turning on is common problem and that its becuase the OBDE2 ports isn't giving it quite enough poewr when i crank my truck over to start it and that all they had to do is install a diode that stored a little bit of energy. Easy enough. I sent it back to them. Should be good to go. Took a long time to get a hold of them and i finally just put the phone on speaker phone while i was driving around town and it took over 30 min for them to get to me.

Any ways he said i should expect it back friday of this week of monday of next and i will get on here and update you all about it.
