Edge Evo Help

Im looking at buying a used edge evo for my 98 f150 4.6. What does everyone think about these in the 4.6. The reason i am going to tow a trailer to cali and have always wanted more performance and now i have an excuse to justify it to the lady. LOL! I have an intake and exhast as well as a tb spacer.

A couple of ?'s

1.) if i buy it used will it be locked out. I worried becuase i dont want to get it and find out that it can only be used on one truck becuase of a vin lock out and i dont have any experiance with the product.

2.) Is this worth it at all? I have never done any tune on any vehicle before and dont know if it worth it..

HELP GUYS

Im looking at it for 200 with all the manuels and everything that goes with it. And its only 5 months old.

What do you guys think?

I like it, but I have a 5.4L. there are alot of people running it with the 4.6 that love it. if you buy it make sure they return the truck it's on to stock first otherwise you can call edge and get it fixed for $$$? if you can get it for around $200 I think it's a great buy, go for it

200 is a really good price, almost too good, considering the recent price increase, you can't touch one new for less than 400. As long as the previous owner returns his truck back to stock, the unit will not be "vin locked". Otherwise, you may just have a 200 dollar paperweight. Also, make sure it is the EEF 2100 which is the new model unit for 97-03 f-150's, it has the pod for dash mount. IIRC the 97-98 models don't have the provisions in the factory computer to change tire size or gear ratio from the EDGE like the newer trucks have.

yeah this is the one from ebay. He says that he has returned it to stock. So i should be good aobut the vin lock. IM a little skeptical about buying a tuner just cuase i have always been one of those guys that goes for mechanical power and steered away from computers. LOL Am i goign to notice a differance?

im assuming that you had the 5.4 then. did you like the edge? Was it easy to navigate. Have you ever done any of the updates to it?

Ya mine is a 5.4.I have updated it once after i got and have been using it that way ever since. At first its a little scarry when you first start using but its great after you get used to it.I loved the thing but i have done some more work to my truck that requires custom tuning. My particular truck will catch rubber every time if ya lay into it on the 1-2 shift.I would like to keep it for the gauges but thats kinda expensive for that purpose.Just remember if you buy it to follow the instructions exactly to avoid problems

Thats awsome. What made it scary? My truck isn't stock but from the sounds of it it isn't as built as yours. What color is the unit and the plastic dash mount? I couldn't tell if it was balck or just the shade in the pics.

What made it scarry was reading the horror stories on here about freezing and having to reflash. The pod that the edge hooks to is black and the edge itself is grey border. The pics didn't come out as good as i hoped.I actually took pics when it was in my truck resetting it back to stock but they were to unclear to make out. What are your mods?I had a lean condition and want to make sure your allright?

just an intake, exhast, bored tb spacer and i have ported and polished the tb and the elbow behind it. As far as spark plugs i have bosch +4's and i have not done anything to the injectors. I think that after i get a tuner that iwont touch this engine any more. You htink that this will be a god combo with the edge?

What is the exact intake you have? The reason i ask is because i have the same as you but i have an AF1 intake and that thing flows some serious air.
My combo created a lean condition. It should be different for you though because you have the 4.6.The 4.6 does not need as much gas as the 5.4 to begin with so you should be allright.

Oh and take that TB spacer off of there
