MAF Reading and settings on Edge Programmer?
MAF Reading and settings on Edge Programmer?
Hey guys, I have some questions for you. I have a 2005 5.4L 4x4. I have "true dual" exhaust, and as a result, no low end torque. I have an AFE Stage II intake system. I also have a couple of hundred pounds of accessories (audio equipment, brush guard, full toolbox, etc.) I feel like my truck is excessively slow.
I bought an Edge Evolution tuner to try and fix this problem. I tried level 2 and 3, both stock and custom (trying different settings). I've read in other forums and on the Edge website that people are getting in the 7.00's in the 0-60 performance test. The best I can seem to get is 8.50.
Can anybody suggest settings that I could use?
WOT (Wide Open Throttle) Shifting
Shift Firmness
Rev. Limiter
Timing Adjustment
WOT Fuel
Also, and more importantly, how do you read the MAF reading? I know it's for the air/fuel ratio, but what is normal? Mine reads anywhere from 17.0 - 48.0, depending on how hard I press the gas. So what does this mean? Am I running rich, or lean? I was thinking since I have a cold air induction kit, that I have more air than stock, so I put my WOT Fuel to 1.60.
Can anybody break it down and tell me what these mean?
•VCAM (variable cam timing) – Number of degrees the cam is advanced/retarded in regard to crankshaft angle.
•SPARK (spark advance) – Current timing advance/retard for the spark plugs.
•TQC (torque control) – Amount of torque reduction to control traction.
•LOAD (engine load %) – Percentage of total power available being used by the engine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's not the A/F - it's just a number relating to either MAF volts, A/D 'counts', lbs/minute, or some other value (anyone really know, or ask Edge?) Regardless, you cannot change it, nor use it for any type of tuning. Sorry.
Mass Air Flow
Calculated by the Mass Air Flow Sensor - measured in grams per second. (g/s)
This measurement tells the PCM how much air is entering the engine.
The PCM makes "outputs" (amount of spark advance, amount of cam advance, injector dwell time, open or close the EGR valve, transmission shift points, etc, etc.) based on "inputs" from various sensors (mass air flow, oxygen content in exhaust before the cats, oxygen content in exhaust after the cats, throttle position, engine vacuum, vehicle speed, EGR valve position, etc, etc.)
It makes these decisions based on the strategy programmed into the PCM. (A tuner alters this strategy by modifying certain parameters)

Breaking all this down, is there any numbers to watch out for after adding a CAI? Are these numbers sufficient to watch for a lean condition that may be brought about by a CAI addition and what should I look for? I suspect they may be useless without fuel numbers get your ratio.

If you still have the stock intake throw it on and see what happens to your 0-60. I have an 05 5.4 4x4 stock intake and a dynomax SI/SO muffler with 3.73LS and the Edge says i run a 7.5 0-60. This is on lvl 3 W/93octane. What gears do you have???
