Troyer Q's???
ok i have been looking around these forums alot now and asking some questions about tuner chips and i see alot of ups and downs about the edge and the same for super chips. but now the more i read i have been seeing alot more about troyers xcal2 and i'm wondering is it really that good and if so i would like to go with something like that. and the company sounds great and they have been around for a while and i like that they specificlly tune your truck. ok so my Q's are for those of you that have this do you really notice a difference and i mean a real difference in power or is it just a little bit better? i would love to hear anyones opinion about this. i have been reading alot of forums and MGDfan seems to be a big fan of troyer and everything he says seems to be intellegent and researched, so to him do you really love it and and notice a significant difference,if so how do i go about getting myself started with one of these units? and another thing it seem troyer has alot of different units how do i know that the xcal2 is the right one? i have an 06 FX4 5.4 trition. any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

You're making the right decision with Troyer! I have the Xcal2 with the 89 tow, 89 perf & 91 perf. I also have a Borla exhaust & an Air Force 1 intake. I bought it as a package deal through Troyer it's as easy a phone call away. They will help you choose the correct set up for your truck.
The difference is night and day and I'm just using the 89 perf tune. The package deal is the way to go! Good luck the sooner you call them the sooner they can start on your tunes...which takes about 6 weeks to complete. |
The changes in power and throtle response are nothing short of amazing. I have an '05 F-250 4X4 5.4 tuned with 87 performance and there is a VERY significant difference over stock. I also have 93 performance and 93 tow which will put an even bigger smile on your face. Call them and don't ever worry about whether you made the right decision or not. They rock.

The biggest difference is that the tunes from Troyer are as close to your truck's comfiguration as possible (short of going to him to dyno tune) where the others are canned tunes for your truck in general. Do yourself a favor and take your time to completely fill out the worksheets as best as possible. The info you provide to Troyer is what he tunes around based on your truck, ECU version etc........
It took alittle over 4 weeks to get mine, but I did mine in the winter and he didn't have as much of a back log. I did a 89 tow with 10 % ethanol (my local fuel), a 91 tow with 10% and a 91 performance tune. I am running the 89 Tow and love it. My truck runs so much better now. I have a 07 FX2 5.4 with the Air Force 1 3.5 inch intake, Magnaflow catback and Troyer tunes. Makes my truck fun to drive................ |
I've had the edge programmer and now I own the liverwire with Troyer's custom tunes. I like the throttle response and the smoother engine idle with the Troyer tunes than I did with the edge. My butt dyno can't really tell a difference in performance but that isn't an accurate measure of performance anyways. I have not done any 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, it doesn't matter to me what they really are, I just know the performance is much better than stock on both units. With that said, I would pick the Troyer custom tunes now that I've tried them both. :rocker: Just the wait time is killer  , but well worth it!

I was in the same dilema as you and what drove me to troyer is their customer service. You will see throughout these threads of people complimenting their service. Also, there were a lot of people having problems with their edge units.....not to say that you wont with the Xcal II but at least I know when I call TroyerPerformance I am going to talk to someone, not a machine, that will help me out. They are very easy to talk to and very patient. If you call them you will see. Thats what I did to figure out what the best tuner setup for my truck would be. His are about the same with a bunch of additional bells and whistles. So its just deciding what you would like and they will sit down and take the time to explain them to you. Plus, you always have them to call for help and like I said earlier.......AWESOME customer service. I am still waiting for my tunes and intake to come in but they said they might be in at the end of the week! Good luck with YOUR decision.

HI everyone,
First - thank all of you ever so much for your kind support - that means more to us than you will ever know, it's nice that we are recognized for as hard as we work here - THANK YOU! :) Now to get to the real question here, which is for chubbroc11 - first, I think it is important to have reasonable expectations. Meaning, yes, go with our Troyer Performance tuning in the XCalibrator 2 (or the LiveWire) as that is what will actually get you the best results. However, do not expect tuning alone to feel like a supercharger, it won't. Remember, yo have a truck that is upwards of 3 tons there, so it takes a significant increase in power to make it feel like a rocketship. Also, the WORST possible way to measure performance is by the seat of the pants, as many people cannot feel a 30 HP gain in the seat of the pants - while others who are finely tuned to their vehicle's responses and are really hot-rodders at heart, will install our custom tuning and just rave about it, and really feel the difference - and then everything in between. What I can tell you is that our custom tuning is the single best bang-for-the-buck performance enhancement you can make, as nothing else for the same or less cost will provide you will more performance gain. That doesn't mean it will be a supercharger for a few hundred bucks, of course not - just that our tuning is the best bang for the buck performance mod you can make, and that is why most people start off with our tuning - which can always be updated for future modifications if need be via email, it's very easy. What I suggest, if you have not already done so by now, is to give us a call and have us set you up with our Troyer Performance tuning in the XCalibrator 2 - that will give you a set of 3 different custom tunes made for your individual vehicle for exactly how & what you need to be able to do with your vehicle, and will be the bet place to start - many people will also do the Air Force One intake system, as we offer a very aggressive combo deal on our tuning & that intake kit, which gains the most power. But that is up to you, I don;t mean to play salesman here - the tuning is the most important thing, and will really help that 2006 F-150 come alive. I hope this brief info helps, & we hope to hear from you (if we haven't already)! Thanks for your post, & best of luck with your truck! :) |

I had an EDGE on my 05' and loved it, Edge did not work on my 07, so I went with Custom tunes from Troyer, with an Air Force 1 intake and a magnaflow catback. The difference is amazing, I would never own or use a canned tuner again. Keep in mind that with the recent price increase from Edge, an X-Cal II with custom tunes from Troyer is actually cheaper. Mike T. is also a master at rewriting the mass air transfer function to compensate for whatever intake you choose to use and to fix the inherent lean condition the trucks have. Not many tuners can fix the MATF, let alone know what it is. Bottom line, Mike's tunes are far superior to any canned tune from anyone, and most likely better than anyone else's custom tunes also.
