Question Tuner

I have '03 5.4 Supercrew XLT. I am kind of new to the mods thing besides the K&N filter and I got larger tires. Went up to 285 75/16's. I have lost some gas mileage and I only get around 12 MPG with mostly highway driving. It also feels as if it may be working harder because of the new tires. My truck has about 77K miles and just had the fuel filter replaced. Just curious if a tuner/programmer may be helpful to raise my gas mileage and get some more power out of the truck. Thanks in advance for any info

-Sean

Power yes, mileage no, you won't be able to keep your foot out of it.

Hi Sean,

Well, when you install tires that are either heavier *or* taller, you will lose power and fuel mileage.

Now, can that be helped with quality tuning? Absolutely!

We do a set of 3 different custom tunes, set up for however each individual vehicle owner prefers - we can do mileage-specific types of tunes if you like, but also, as long as you can keep your foot out of the firewall (so to speak), meaning once the "novelty" of a new go-faster part wears off a bit, most people see a nice improvement in fuel mileage from our normal performance tunes as well.

I think what the other poster was referring to, and in some cases very accurately, is the fact that once you first get our tuning and feel the improved power & performance, it takes a little while to get over using the additional power and enjoying the newfound performance and power before you get back to more normal driving and using a bit less throttle, so that you can enjoy the mileage gains that can be had by quality tuning on these trucks.

Please feel free to give us a call to go over any of this in more detail, we'll be happy to help - thanks for your post, & best of luck with your truck!
