Actually, we're here sitting waiting on you now - you're about an hour late!

Hope everything is going OK on your trip, we can't reach you by cell phone - just FYI.

Bad Day

We took a trip to troyer performance 3-14-07. We had a mishap in summersville, Stopped at Mcdonalds to eat breakfast and noticed tire going flat. We had to go to citgo service station behind walmart. WAIT until they open up. The valve stem leaking. It rained all the way down which didn't help time. Quit raining when We got there Found out theres something wrong with the truck. NO POWER. To embarass to say what HP. I have to make a appointment to the local ford dealer. I'm not done yet with my mishaps. THEN on the way home,We go to mcdonalds (different mcdonalds)which they were slow as hell. After waiting inside 10 minutes we left with no food so we went to subway they had wheat bread ONLY, so we left there with no food. went back to Mcdonalds, went through the drive through. shorted us 2 dollars, and fries, and partially filled 2nd set of fries. Started to rain AGAIN all the way home 6 hrs in the rain. Not done yet. finally get home wake up this morning can't find my money which I had yetersday, Our dog decided to repell last night, got in my jean pockets and ate 40.00 (2) $20.00 bills.

What do you mean you have NO POWER and have to make an appointment at Ford. Was there something mechanically wrong with the truck? Follow your dog and see if he ****'s quarters

No Power

thats put this way. I have it tuned for 93 octane performance mode. I'm putting out less horsepower than stock truck. Mike from TP thinks it might be CMCV (what some used to call IMRC) does not ever open fully.I had a animal chew some wires under my manifold, which he mad a nest. and the cam phaser is bad because a slight tap at idle, only in drive or reverse, which the idle at its lowest.

Hi Guys,

I can enlighten you a bit on this, & hope it's OK with the owner.

First, the vehicle owner was a very nice gentleman, and the poor guy went thru hell - had a flat tire on the way here that put him behind, and then when he gets here, we install his AF1 & load up his tuning...........

and his truck is about 100-120 RWHP down on power!!!! OUCH!

Meaning, something is mechanically wrong with his truck.

In datalogging, we found that his CMCV was not opening, which, once in a rare while the datalogging software won't pick up on the CMCV activity properly, but it was definitely feel-able. When you first nailed it it felt OK, but then immediately stopped making additional power.

His peak power was only 147 RWHP. Ech - it was an easy 60 RWHP down from what it should put out STOCK.

Additionally, the engine was making a light metallic knocking noise, but only when idling in gear - put it in Park or Neutral and the knock immediately stopped, which tends to point to a cam phaser problem. Oil volume was fine, oil pressure when idling in gear was fine, otherwise we would never have run it on the dyno, and we only made a coupla-few light pulls at that.

Now the vehicle is under warranty, so we cannot do the repairs on the vehicle - this is up to a dealership to take care of. We have documented as best we can what his problems seem to be, how far down it is on power, etc.

With all the trucks we have done, this was a first, to have a truck with a knock like that (and no, it wasn't a "rod knock" or anything like that, otherwise we would never have run it on the dyno) AND to be 100+ RWHP down on power.

Now a while back, the customer had a animal get in under the intake manifold and chew thru a wiring harness, disabling the cylinder head temperature sensor - so it's possible that, since the CMCV control goes to the same harness, that the animal got further down in there and chewed it up and the dealership didn't find that damage, or perhaps didn't properly do the repair, I don't know - his CHT sensor was functioning when we got it.

So we suspect 1 or possible 2 issues - one is CMCV not opening, and the power plots certainly indicate an airflow-related type of power production issue, and then the knock, which we're surmising may be a cam phaser - that is what both of our ASE-certified Ford techs diagnosed it as. Now that alone could potentially cause a power problem, so it is possible it's all in the cam phaser, perhaps.

But the bottom line is, this nice guy had a heck of a time - he had some time ago tried to tow his 7000 lb trailer, and the truck would barely do 50 mph, so it has been down on power for some time. He took it into the dealership, and they told him that his "knocking" noise was "normal" - well, we noticed it right away, you can't miss it, and it is NOT normal in any way, shape or form.

So now it's time for him to get it into a competent dealership to diagnose & repair under warranty.

After we were thru and he left, he even called us from the road saying it just wasn't running well, and since he was only about 20 miles out we had him come all the way back, and we did 3 more brand new tunes from scratch all over gain, just to make sure it couldn't be anything on our end (file corruption, etc., which happens about every 12th of never), and of course, there was no difference, it still made no power, the original tunes were perfectly fine as usual.

So it's off to the dealership for diagnosis & repair - it will be interesting to see how this one turns out, we just hate that it wasn't a simple tuning or connection issue, something that we could have taken care of for him here cheaply/quickly - but he'll have to get it taken care of by a Ford dealership, and he's still under warranty.

no power

Well I took my truck to the dealer. I dropped it off Tuesday night. I called them at 4:45. They said there is definitely something wrong with the truck. Who knows how many other trucks having this problem and not knowing it. My check engine light never came on. I didn't know until I got it dynoed. I took to another dealer in the past and they said there nothing wrong. I had a lot of trouble towing my camper in April 2006.

Well, I'm delighted to hear that they did in fact find problems - you and I knew all along that there was something causing a serious lack of power with the vehicle, and I bet it turns out I am right about this, and the CMCV system is not operating properly - that is certainly what all of our data shows.

I'm glad you're getting it fixed, and I'll be happy once you get it back and can enjoy your modifications and see just what that truck can REALLY do!
