EDGE Timing ??

Edge manual says to INC timing +0.5 for every +1.0 INC in octane over suggested octane uses (87 & 91). Then the manual says "Therefore it is safe to INC timing to +1.5 when using 93 octane on LEV III". This does not add up (Should be +1.0 not +1.5 right?). I am running 94 octane on LEV III and have my timing adjusted to +1.5...SHOULD I bump my timing up to +2.0??? Not sure...

You can probably run a little more than they say. I run 1.5 on 93 octane, and no problems. Each truck is different plus your sea level affects it(where you are located) and I am sure they were conservative. You can try the plus 2.0 and see how it runs and listen for pinging. Then back it off if need be.

I am right on the coast..I'll try bumping it up to 2.0 and see.

I have a couple questions. I ran 93 octane last week on a level 2 tune + 3.0 on the timing. I LOVED it! but now i'm back to regular 87 octane. Can i advance my timing any at all or just leave it at 0. Last week was the first time i tried the 93 octane with my EDGE. I tired it on level 3 first and my truck ran terrible, so I set it back to level 2 with +3.0. I always run level 2 because my work pays for my gas and I don't want to completely abuse that privelege by buying 93 octane. But i did notice by bumping the timing I loved the way it ran. I love my EDGE so far and level 2 seems great for my driving. So ultimately can I raise the timing even on 87 octane w/ level 2? One more thing, how much WOT fuel are you guys putting in?

Try using the data / PID logging tools that came with the Edge to see if it's pulling timing. That's partly what they are for.

If you don't know what it's actually doing - and you CANNOT, for the thousandth time, reliably detect pinging with those funny looking things stuck on the sides of your head (a fact - get over it) - don't pecker with it.

The same manual that suggests you can do this also has a big disclaimer in it w.r.t engine damage and a waiver of their responsibility. Jeez - I wonder why??

How come I do not see any reports on engine damage?

Level 3 running 100/101 = +5 deg. (This is for the rich guys!)

These are ideal values at sea level. At altitude, you should be able to add another degree per 2500 ft.

5000 ft. = +2 deg.

Just so you know, I can run level 3, +3 deg at 4500 ft with 91 octane. 4 to 4.5 degrees gets me a nice rattle on heavy throttle tip-in (low RPM throttle stomp) but actually drives quite nicely on the highway giving me another +.25 to +.5 MPG at 70 MPH versus +3 degrees timing.

I hope this helps a little.

Bill

If you are running 87, then you should not adjust your timing. Level 2 comes set for 87. You should check your mileage running both 87 and 93. I get better mileage running 93 on level 3, more than enough to make up the difference in price.

Also, I run the WOT Fuel at 1.5 or 1.6.

You may not be able to always dedect it, but if you do, you DEFINITELY have a problem and need to back it off.

Im going to go on my computer one of these days and check out some things. How do you know if your trucks timing is off? If anyone can give me any info on the program I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Diggin up bones here. But, I got some new shoes on my ride and I have not adjusted my EDGE yet. I also haven't checked what I have my WOT set at in months. To tell you the truth, everything is running great right now and I don't want to mess with that.

Anytime I've ever tried to adjust WOT or Timing my truck just runs like crap. I've tried level 2 and 3 running 93 octane adjusting the timing 1.0 advance and my truck would run very odd. Last time I tried it I floored it and it sputtered and wouldn't downshift or anything. It would just barely go at 45 so I quickly set it back to the canned tune level 3 and it runs fine.

The only thing I do custom on mine now is the tire size.
